I’ve been keeping a list of Trump II admin actions on a blog and decided to give it its own home: Civicslog.com. The list goes back to the election and I’ll port those items over several at a time while trying to keep up with the daily flood.

Cheesecake Factory is camp. It’s impossible to make fun of it; the making fun of it is already baked into the cake.

Need to reprint this as… a coffee table book.

The PL Dubois sign and trade and eventual trade to the Capitals was a terrible misuse of resources, tho it did return Kuemper.

I asked the AI how many players drafted by GMRB are still with the team (Blake’s last draft was 2024): seven of the team’s 22. Here they are:

The season is not half over but the 2026 LA Chargers may have a shot at immortality.

One show I’d like to watch is: Annie Murphy and young Jim Carrey alone in a room making faces at one another.

I just noticed the NFL scheduled Super Bowl LX-whatever on Valentine’s Day, 2027.

Tucking those details into a relative clause feels like someone is trying to hide something, which, yeah, smart.

It just dawned on me that River Cartwright is a terrible secret agent. I’d been thinking all his stupid decisions were the show’s writers going for easy plot complications. If that were so, he’d make a decent decision now and then. But he never does. He’s simply unfit for the job.

Sounds bad but surely more aircraft were lost in Iraq? Just for perspective. Not really, no, unless you include the helicopters. Far fewer, in fact. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Daniel Swain, a must follow for weather nerds and Californians generally, here sounds the alarm about the upcoming winter rain season.

Daniel Swain@weatherwest.bsky.social

Just did some number crunching using latest (Oct 1) ECMWF seasonal data, and I must say that I've never seen such high predictive confidence in a very wet California winter. This is a truly extraordinary forecast amid a record-strength El Niño event. [Thread: please read to end.]

Hey @governor.ca.gov: Any plans to sign the “Balcony Solar” bill (SB 868) into law before the 9/30 deadline? It’s been on your desk for weeks. CA renters should have an opportunity to cut ⚡️costs, reduce carbon emissions, and help the grid during peak usage. What’s the holdup?

Seems like the National Weather Service’s Area Forecast Discussion has gotten sloppy and less informative over the past several months. More typos. Less meteorologist’s reasoning behind the forecast. The AFD is a valuable resource and it’d be a real loss if it were to go away. @nws.noaa.gov

I follow the San Diego, Ca station’s AFD, so maybe the changes I’m noticing are local.

Somehow singular “they” snuck up and lodged itself in the part of brain that says ”this sounds right.” Now whenever generic “he” turns up in older texts I give it a sidelong glance. It sounds anachronistic, but more, it sounds off, and the colonization of my ear is complete.

AI Force? An AI Tsar? I thought they had given that job to a tech-bro? (Asks chat.) They did: David Sacks was the Special Advisor for AI and Crypto Tsar. But it was a limited-time appointment, so when his term ended, he joined the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

The talk about ai-authored human extinction seems premature. Surely the machines will need some of us to stoke the fires, for a while. And those people will need homes and food and all the rest, produced by other humans. We might call the transition to machine-servitude “the latest capitalism”.

The nesting dependent clauses stuffed into this sentence leave us waiting all afternoon for the speaker to announce his point. No wonder the cook quit.

This day our cook maid (we having no luck in maids now-adays), which was likely to prove a good servant, though none of the best cooks, fell sick and is gone to her friends, having been with us but 4 days.

If the $5k is coming out of his pocket, then yeah. It won’t change my vote, but thumbs up, sure, good plan.

This leaves the current broken system in place, which means ultimately the utilities and ratepayers will be forced to cover wildfire costs. Here’s an idea: The state should take the IOUs public. But not until the ongoing lack of resolution drives the share price closer to $0.

I’ve been bugged by the transformation of the term “late-stage capitalism” which first described a system in its final throes, its contradictions irresolvable, into today’s meaning, nearly the opposite, that describes a capitalism ever more pernicious in its ability to find resources to exploit.

“Sature-intensive capitalism is characterized by simultaneous expansion into newly commodifiable domains and increasingly granular monetization—or infill—within domains already incorporated into market exchange.” It only needs a couple of examples to be taken seriously. We already have a hyphen.

(A hyphen is like a bow-tie for concepts, a bit of staid flourish that imparts seriousness and pedigree.)

I get that words have meanings that change with use (consider “neo-liberalism’s” evolution). Still, we also need precision in our language to help us understand the world better. So let’s retire “late-stage capitalism” and let it again describe the moment before capitalism collapses. Let’s devise

a new term, one that captures our capitalism’s ability to find and exploit niches, to new depths. Our capitalism saturates reality with itself, and exploits the pores it slides into with greater intensity than the capitalisms that came before: it is “sature-intensive capitalism.” Let’s define it:
