I'm honestly still trying to understand the appeal of New Age philosophy that plunders Judaism but is full of anti-Jewish hatred, repackages Xtianity and Gnosticism, and then muddles in left-leaning confirmation bias conspiracy theories. Makes me nostalgic for when Qanon seemed simple.

Dude I'm sorry but politics are making people say dumb shit this week and it's grating on me because it's spreading misinformation. Most bot farms do not need a full-ass data center to function. Surveillance infrastructure also doesn't need data center-sized infrastructure to function!!

-A lot of US people considered privacy concerns a China thing but not an us thing until a much more actively authoritarian govt took power here Etcetcetc We, the unwashed non-tech person public, accepted Silicon Valley libertarianism pretty actively for a bit

I think some left-leaning people are interpreting the recognition that infighting sucks into ignoring how the regular public facilitated a lot of this, and how not folding in opt-in tech culture is a problem of lack of consent education.

And we allowed it, may I point out. We fucked off about ToSes. We used social media and shared everything about ourselves there where cybersecurity pros would not have accounts there for 15-20 years already. To share stupid words with pictures on them.

And to offload responsibility on the very rich also erases how -A lot of white people trusted policing and the carceral system til 6 years ago -A lot of employed white folks still want a class of anyone to make their labor smoother -A lot of US people don't see SWANA people as equally human Etc

It's great to hate data centers but y'all are just slapping whatever the fuck you don't like on top of their existence. We have been being surveilled and huge tracts of data center land were and are not necessary for it!!!

Watching Cabin in the Woods (2011) and...many thoughts here. First, credits need to stop jumpscaring me. Also, much as I love horroromedy and meta shit...this is like, Monty Python-adjacent, almost. Though I do like the confirmation that all the stoners were right about everyone being surveilled.

Yeah, I dunno dude. I'm gonna file this one under, tons of ideas, all over the place. It is strange to me that still at this point, no horror movie I've seen can get past the promiscuous woman/girl dies first, Black/PoC character dies early, prudish woman/girl is final survivor.

Saw some BS on here earlier so I want to remind people that pointing out the fact that one component of racialization of people was that it is/was indeed a class-based scam, doesn’t minimize the fact that it was also apartheid, nor also based in older bigotries (like anti-Jewish). It can be all.

Watched Trick or Treat (2007). G4G, Goblin 4 Goblin. Haha Equal parts cheeze and suspense, consciously. There were choices. I appreciated that. Still kinda better than the Clive Barker with Captain Hook music movie. No grade from me, just fun.

Heidi Wong's Halloween costume (instagram) is as the Shimmer from the Annihilation movie, with a purse using my novel. Really clever, looks good affixed to the purse.

Watching The Amityville Horror (2005) and I like that a big looming jumpscare is the subprime lending crisis. I like the update showing a blended family with the guy trying to be non-trash in an era that definitely went hard on shitty Nu Metal toxic masculinity.

Somehow this movie went more yikes with the sexy babysitter than anything that happened in the original movies. Like they had to cobble *some* character into being the stereotypical scapegoated sexualized woman.

Also I just want to take this moment to comment, remember when Marie Kondo got popular and US people's heads kinda racistly EXPLODED that places including homes might have spirits or hold energy and you should connect with them? Anyway.

Watched Nightmare on Elm Street for the first time last night. This movie really clinched for me that I think horror movies in the 80s were just Gen X's way of processing life events, because going to therapy wasn't as popular then for the middle class. (Stigmatized, really)

Gonna say, for the highly regarded "horror classics," I preferred this to Friday the 13th movies. Those are almost unbearable to sit through. At least this one leaned into the drama, and with the Halloweens at least Carpenter understood suspense.

I like that at least compared to Friday the 13th, there were some suspense buildup and releases. It wasn't constant dorky jumpscares but more like a normalization of terror. That feels very Cold War-ish too. Actual Freddy was pretty corny. As expected.

Nancy kind of raising her mom was pretty on the nose. I imagine that was pretty groundbreaking representation for what a lot of teens were going through. It's wild that the plotline is based around Freddy trying to get revenge because parents actually gave a shit and did vigilante justice.

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

My mentor of many years has passed, as of a couple days ago. I just found out. Honestly I feel relief for her, not only per the personal aspects of her situation but not having to live through the bullshit that will probably transpire after November 3rd in our country.

I wish more updated horror had the gonads to roast organized religion like this movie.

Finally watched Amityville Horror. Interesting and maybe one of the emerging faves of trying to school myself on classic horror. Liked the psychological suspense. At first I rolled my eyes at all the repeats of the tropes in The Shining but then R pointed out that this movie came out the year prior
