Open Access goes beyond making research free to read. Who pays for publishing? Whose labour sustains it? Who is excluded from the system? Ahead of #OAWeek, we reflect on the real cost of knowledge and how to build alternatives. Read more: peeer.net/2026/10/12/t... #BetterPublishing

Would have liked to see a few talks about the new features in dplyr or even more on ellmer, for emotional support and reassurance

I've been feeling pretty down. When I found #RStats, I kinda fell in love, and decided to become as much of an expeRt as I could be. In the age of AI, that's not a good idea; why make the bots program in a language they don't really understand? #dataBS

Each year I try to be constructive and helpful with my talks at #positconf but ended up complaining about: - code comments (2024) - spreadsheets (2025) - IDEs + my dad fixing electronics with a kitchen knife (today)

For years, open source communities relied on visible friction: people got stuck, asked questions in public, and became part of a community. AI is changing that. What happens when newcomers are no longer visible—and neither side knows the other is there? blog.stdlib.io/ai-and-the-i...

Neat study led by @liomys.mx describing what we (don't) know about genetic data on Mexican mammals. Part of the Special Issue of Therya (Mexican Mammalogy Association) dedicated to the pioneering work of Livia León Paniagua
