I don't know why Coleman's death has hit me so strongly. Maybe because I'm thinking of my dad, & we are near the anniversary of his death Or from wondering if he was suffering from PCS while I was enjoying his skill & play I rarely watch football anymore. Read Woodson's Before the Ever After.

Monte Coleman, a three-time Super Bowl champion and Ring of Fame linebacker for Washington, has died at age 68, the Washington Commanders announced.

My Year in Books Caveat for books: I'm a Children's Librarian, and put board books, picture books, etc down as potential storytime, possible programs, or lists for Professional articles. I'll release my 5* books in a few days

My Year in Fiber 'Grace' was my word of 2025, but expect it to last the entire Trump Presidency as a reminder to give others and ourselves Grace during this turbulent period.

#libfaves25 Catching up - this is my 4th rec. Jenny Holiday's Into the Woods The romance is great & fun, and the message is even better! Starting over or shifting your life is possible at any age! May we all have the time to grow and develop our interests and spark our creativity into the world!

##libfaves25 Not an official entry, because it was published in October 2024, but I need to sing the praises of Boy 2.0 by Tracey Baptiste For Upper Elementary & Middle School, it's a great mix of mystery, science, racial issues! Plus add a superpower and you get awesome story!

#libfaves25 Another historical fiction - not a surprise since it's a favorite genre and Victoria Christopher Murray is a fabulous author Learn all about Jessie Redmon Fauset, called by Langston Hughes the midwife of the Harlem Renaissance!

Quiet house (kids are chilling upstairs) and I'm about to watch Tiler Peck on PBS. Awesome way to spend an hour - especially with me missing ballet since I'm currently not going to the Kennedy Center!

Oh hey, a reason to be hopeful: groves of American chestnut trees have once again become self-reproducing in the wild. Turned off comments so 12 people don't show up to tell me why this is actually very sad. Be happy, you assholes.

Michelle's Book of the Month: After a FB discussion, I realized that since I get exposed to really different & interesting books, I should post titles that might get lost. I'm reading this now, and it's fascinating. Was a rec when I was in Scotland

Update: So much is happening in the world right now, it's easy for news to get lost. Trump has begun large scale firing of federal employees in hopes of pressuring the Democrats to concede and reopen the government. I've posted my piece Stars Falling from the @braveartspeaks project before.

Wish me luck!! I'm diving into the 30+ hour audiobook that is The Hemingses of Monticello by Annette-Gordon Reid. I feel it's more important than ever to keep learning about ALL our nation's history, as some are trying to remove pieces of it.

School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content". In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival. www.kqed.org/arts/1397192...

kqed.orgAfter Censorship, Santa Rosa Students Write Their Own Play — and Take the Gold | KQEDA state festival awarded top honors to ‘REDACTED,’ which ruthlessly lampooned district officials.

How the mighty have fallen. I just checked the WP online (I canceled my subscription but still occasionally check headlines). There is absolutely *nothing* about the plane crash in Philly, which happened 5 hours ago. Very sad statement on the once important newspaper.

Scrolling to postpone reading the last 20 pages. The events in this book may have happen over 100 years ago, but we've already had 3 young man die, and Wilfred Owen is just beginning to live his dream as a poet! This book will definitely cause a book hangover.

Since I've not gone anywhere, I have heard NO Christmas music. My family doesn't enjoy it, and since we are Jewish, I don't fight them on it. I just put on a Spotify Holiday Playlist on. :)

What's going on with these ebook prices!! I have Jenny Holiday's A Princess for Christmas on my tablet, & I enjoyed the re-read. I decided it was probably time to buy book 2. Duke, Actually is $15.99 for the *ebook*! The paperback is $12.79. I borrowed it on Hoopla instead, & wait for a sale.

So I'm actually pretty proud of my #Libfaves24 breakdown 2 non-fiction picture books 2 middle grade kids fiction 2 adult non-fiction 2 adult historical romances 1 adult contemporary/witch romance 1 adult fiction I'll be curious to see what the breakdown is next year!

#libfaves24 SECRET LIFE OF BIRDS by Lynne Kelly This middle grade book is a great example of the treasures that can be found in books for this age group -- Engaging writing, emotional and interesting story with characters that develop and grow as they learn.

#libfaves24 OUTOFSHAPEWORTHLESSLOSER by Gracie Gold Gracie doesn't pull any punches in this really strong memoir about skating and depression. There are also some really strong parallels to stories that have emerged from Women's gymnastics.
