As midterms enter the final stretch, new poll shows 🗳️ Nearly half of Trump 24 voters are either “very” or “somewhat” concerned about corruption in the administration. 🗳️ Nearly half of voters overall think it’s been worse in this term than under other presidents.

🗳️ 54% says Trump/Republicans have made cost of living crisis worse. Corruption and affordability becoming linked in mind of electorate a real ill-omen for GOP.

Lula now pulling ahead in the Brazilian presidential election. Could be on verge of a major upset. Would mean a fourth term for the 80 year old president.

Reports that some in Bolsonaro camp (shock!) preparing the way not accept the result. One of his most senior parliamentarians has said: “Either we win. Or we win. You’ve been warned.”

“There is not a political figure in Britain who has enjoyed a better press, on the basis of such scant success.”

I actually quite like Kemi Badenoch. But she is subject to a myth she doesn't deserve: a Tory recovery which just doesn't exist. Despite endless positive coverage, the Tories are still going backwards. And they deserve to be. Piece from me. goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/the-strang...

"No matter how often [the Tory press] write that 'Badenoch had had a good week' - it is not a message you can direct-debit into people's brains until they vote Conservative." This is excellent 👇

Great piece about the Conservative Right living in an alternative universe. 'There is nothing so powerful in British politics as the right wing unreality machine. It is its own Faraway Tree, a place where anything is possible, where anything can be manifested, if you think it hard enough.'

"There is no political figure in Britain that gets a better press than Kemi Badenoch right now. "The Tory press are manifesting a Tory recovery. They're desperate for it to happen," says @lewisgoodall.com. Is a Badenoch bounce real, or has the right wing media made it all up?

Couldn’t be prouder that my doc Coining It won best True Crime at the British Podcast Awards. Testament to the work of brilliant teams at Global and Free Turn, led by Robbie Ashcroft and Ciaran Tracey. Was a privilege of a story to tell- a tale of crime, politics and class.

Sunday with Lewis Goodall was back with a bang this week. 4.7m views on socials. Record numbers watching live stream. Well over 5m total reach. Place to be for politics on a Sunday morning.

This is smart analysis. I had not thought of it previously, but it would be politically suicidal before the Holborn and St Pancras by-election for the government to go ahead with: 1. More drilling in the North Sea; and 2. Mahmood's immigration reforms.

Makerfield shaped the government Burnham formed- Holborn might just shape the government it becomes. Latest from me on Polanski's big gamble and why this by-election could be among the most important yet. goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/zack-polan...

Two train journeys across the UK this week. Both delayed by more than 4 hours between them. Hundreds of pounds for the privilege. Joke infrastructure, joke country.

Almost never feel sad about celebrity deaths- but felt so moved all day today about Dolly Parton. What a woman. The story of America. We’ve recorded a special ep of News Agents about her politics and why she- uniquely- transcended even the bitterest partisan divides. In your feeds at 5pm.

Dolly Parton dead- hard to think of a more famous woman in the world. A few years ago, there was a poll which showed she was the cultural figure both Democrats and Republicans most mutually loved and admired. Virtually unique. Testament to her achievement.

The term “witch hunt” is overused in politics. Perhaps not now. Quite a bit of the British media should ask themselves serious questions as to whether the coverage they gave to this man was remotely proportionate. Likewise there are Qs for Cambridge- and whether they discharged their duty of care.

And now time for that uniquely British summer tradition: where we castigate ourselves, our education system and most of all our young people for going on to be better educated than ever before.

"Where it went very wrong was with Liz Truss, when she only appointed people who supported her to cabinet. We all know where that ended..." Why is factionalism so hard for modern party leaders to get a grip on, and will it tear the two-party system apart?
