Hopefully morale is collapsing as well. A weak man blames his minions. Farage has been playing on easy mode for far too long.

This is when you know an organisation is screwed. The company is collapsing and the boss blames the staff.

Every so often I’m reminded that, despite the debacle of 2024, some of those buggers survived.

Doesn’t matter how you voted if you were front and centre in a Brexit government, actively overseeing the shrinking of our economy, our influence and our opportunities, while you rolled around in the trough. We’ll be disregarding everything you now say, thanks.

The studious hush you can detect across Westminster and our leading universities is the sound of thousands of officials and academics poring over the Truss book. One described it to me as a moment like the publication of Smith's Wealth of Nations, or Keynes' General Theory. "It changes everything".

Rajan’s dumb while thinking he’s smart because he swallows the AI industry’s marketing whole. He’s dumb because he thinks — as Emma pointed out — that regurgitating the same tired talking points will excite an audience. And he’s especially dumb because he didn’t realise how much BBC clout made him.

As excellent as you’d expect from this source. Lots of drive-by humour. The bottom line is Trump admires Putin, wants to exploit the business opportunities in Russia, but has thrown away his leverage to end the conflict because no one now trusts him. samf.substack.com/p/ukraine-wi...

In both Brazil and Serbia one of the ways the rightwing were defeated was by garnering larger turnout. Here’s looking at you, America, to do the same. 70% of you don’t rate Trump, so show that by the one opinion poll that matters bsky.app/profile/medu...

Finding some of the reaction on here to the 'stockpiling' stuff a bit odd. The Russians successfully firebombed the last prime minister's house! There was a cyberattack on a French supermarket a few weeks ago!

Largely because if you see how much bottled water you'd stock for a family - 4 litres per person per day - if supplies were cut off entirely, the advice would be ignored. Better to aim for 'three days of no internet connection and intermittent power and water supply' and build from there.

Interesting thread. Northern Soul was a precursor to the 80s/90s rave scene. The DJs were the stars, it was fuelled by drugs, rather than alcohol, and the gigs carried on until the sun came up.

Rafael Behr@rafaelbehr.bsky.social

Nerd thread for Sunday morning. I was dancing like a maniac to Northern Soul in a club in Brighton yesterday and the following thought occurred to me ... Northern Soul, if you don't know - short version - rare/neglected US RnB soul records that acquired fanatical UK audience, especially in Wigan ...

Does anybody know why we are being advised to buy FM radios to prepare for a national emergency? Are digital transmissions more vulnerable?

“Farage campaigned for Trump in the last 3 presidential elections and notably came to his defence at a low moment when Trump fell badly behind in 2016 over his grotesque “grab ’em by the pussy” remarks” Farage will never dump Trump. He owes too much to MAGA money and the far right oligarchy.

One of the finest examples of Populism's fast-thinking simplism. 'I've seen an answer to this and it instantly hits an "instinctively right" button (as long as I don't think about it too hard). And it owns the libs. So I'm now going to use it myself.' Now multiply that. The echo chamber effect.

Not sure why Europe hasn't upped the pressure on Putin by saying that Russia's frozen assets will be used to fund Ukraine in stages until a ceasefire holds. Yes there are legal problems, but European security surely trumps them.
