Over the weekend, at least 12 people were injured, including six kids and teens, in a shooting near Florida A&M University after the HBCU's homecoming football game. Our communities deserve to gather, celebrate, and live without fear of gun violence. https://nyti.ms/3VXutof
The father who intervened in the Bend shooting may be a hero, but heroism should never be our prevention strategy. Heroism is an individual act. Prevention is a societal responsibility—and how we save lives. More in my latest post. https://bit.ly/4BphCvb
76% of school shooters get their gun from the home. Parents, and all adults, can keep our homes, schools, and communities safe by always storing all firearms locked, unloaded, and away from ammo. Safe firearm storage saves lives. #EndFamilyFire
Family fire refers to a shooting that results from someone misusing an unsecured firearm from the home. If there’s an unlocked and loaded gun in your home, your family is at risk of family fire. Learn how to securely store your firearms at EndFamilyFire.org.

Nine years after losing his father to gun violence, Brady board member and Ohio chapter leader @erickbellomy.bsky.social is asking Ohio’s leaders a question they can no longer afford to avoid: What will you do to save lives? https://bit.ly/47CstEm
Great news from VA’s AG. With the very real possibility of federal interference, voter intimidation, and attempts to undermine election results, it’s reassuring to know that #VA is already prepared to protect its voters and defend our democracy on Election Day and beyond.
Political violence has no place in America. The proliferation of firearms in Trump’s “guns everywhere” America makes it even more terrifying . When threats drive people out of office, our democracy is in trouble. It’s a threat to every American’s right to be represented without fear/intimidation.
Families in Erie #PA would usually be reminiscing about summer days on the lake and talking about the beginning of hockey season. Instead, they are facing the aftermath of a horrific mass shooting. No community should have its routine moments, its safety, or its future stolen by gun violence.
This is absolutely heart wrenching. 9 people shot and killed, including 2 children, in Erie #PA. As we await more information, please hold the families of the victims and the Erie community in your heart. May our leaders’ hearts be broken enough to act.

Abby Zwerner still has a bullet lodged in her chest after 6 surgeries. She was shot by her 6-year old student. Please, please, please, take this as your reminder to right now to securely store your firearm—locked and unloaded & separate from ammunition — so it never reaches the hands of a child.
The gun industry’s solution to individuals facing domestic violence? Buy a gun. All while they oppose laws to protect survivors. Why isn’t everyone focusing on getting guns out of the hands of their dangerous abusers? Every 12 hours, an American is shot and killed by an intimate partner. ENOUGH.
A 5-year old should never have to watch anyone, let alone federal agents, open fire on the person sitting next to them. My heart breaks just thinking about the terror this child felt. We need answers.

A recipe for increased gun violence. Until a few weeks ago, 18-year-olds could only legally purchase a long gun from a licensed dealer. Now, thanks to the DOJ, they can legally buy handguns—the most trafficked firearms—while teens are simultaneously being recruited into gun trafficking networks.
This should shock and alarm us all. American high schoolers are being recruited into gun trafficking networks that arm Mexican cartels. When lethal weapons are this easy to divert into the illegal market, the consequences don’t stop at our border. They fuel violence on both sides of it.

We don’t have to live this way. Strong gun laws save lives.
Women deserve to be safe. But we should be highly skeptical of an industry that sees our fear as an opportunity for massive profit, and markets firearms as a risk-free solution. Bringing a gun into the home introduces a new set of risks. Read my latest post on Locked & Unloaded.
Silencers Sawed-off shotguns Short-barreled rifles Weapons we’ve regulated for nearly a century with good reason. Now, Trump’s DOJ is choosing not to defend these protections, and instead, they are putting these weapons into the hands of criminals. The only people who want this: the gun lobby.
Fellow Virginians, Early Voting is underway. If you’re tired of the reckless and deadly policies in Washington, make your voice heard now. Together, we can build a safer America. Find more information about early voting at elections.virginia.gov
For 21 years, the gun industry has enjoyed special protections that make it more difficult for families devastated by gun violence to have their day in court. In my latest post, I explain why it’s long past time to repeal a law known as PLCAA, and what Brady’s victories in court prove is possible.
@josephsakran.bsky.social is right. We need more physicians and other healthcare professionals in office. They see the toll of America’s gun violence epidemic firsthand, and they know what it takes to stop it. Vote on November 3rd.
I’m proud that our @bradyunited.org Show Gun Safety initiative worked with the team behind Peacock’s The Good Daughter to portray gun violence and its lasting trauma with care. I can’t wait to watch. The show premieres on November 12.
There are women behind these numbers. Women who mattered. Women who feared their partner. Women who are mourned by their family members. This administration is doing nothing to protect vulnerable women. They are gutting funding for prevention and actively putting more guns in dangerous hands.
Secure storage can give an individual in crisis the gift of time. Time for another person to intervene, time for the moment to pass. The responsibility to store firearms safely doesn’t end with National Suicide Prevention Month. Make it an everyday practice. Learn more @endfamilyfire.org
There’s plenty of evidence that guns in the home make women less safe. Yet extremists are attempting to exploit women’s fear to overturn #MA gun laws. More guns and more fear aren’t a plan to keep women safe. They’re a complete failure and the only people who benefit are gun industry executives.
Children are now at least 20x more likely to die by firearm suicide at home than in a school shooting. Guns are the second most prevalent suicide method for kids ages 5 to 11. Firearm suicide is rising in America, & we can prevent it with secure storage. Read about steps you can take in my post.
Thank you Senators @padilla.senate.gov @welch.senate.gov and every Senator who is standing up for the National Firearms Act as this administration abandons its responsibility to defend it. These lifesaving protections have stood for nearly a century. Thank you for fighting to keep Americans safe.
As our chair @josephsakran.bsky.social shared in the Times, Baltimore’s historic drop in gun violence didn’t happen by accident. When ghost guns flooded the streets of Baltimore, the city fought back. Brady helped take the gun industry to court. We won. Gun violence is not inevitable.
AI gun detection systems in schools are an expensive and dangerous distraction from addressing the root causes of gun violence in this country. We must address America’s obsession with unfettered access to guns. Read more in my latest Substack post. Subscribe today to Locked & Unloaded.
This is not the usual satire published by McSweeney’s. The horrors of Trump’s rollbacks of lifesaving gun regulations do indeed take us back 100 years. His actions will cost human lives, and he doesn’t seem to care.
Only in guns everywhere America does this happen.
Never forget Alex Pretti. And never forget what this administration did.
Of course they did. It’s almost like this administration fears it might lose another election… And ironic when the President has been voting by mail. We must have fair and free elections.
For nearly a century, we agreed silencers and easily concealed, short-barreled firearms deserve strict oversight. Now that protection is being dismantled not because Americans asked for it, but because the gun industry wants cold hard cash. Their profits, our risk. Read my latest Substack post ⬇️
Americans see the grift: 69% believe Trump’s private business interests influence his decisions as president. Now his administration wants to make it easier to ship guns through the mail, while his son stands to profit from his shares in GrabAGun, an online gun retailer. Money first, human lives…?
This administration has gone above and beyond to enact the gun industry’s agenda of guns everywhere, guardrails nowhere. Imagine if they worked this hard to keep Americans alive.
The same administration that restored gun rights to convicted domestic abusers and violent January 6th insurrectionists wants us to blindly trust its judgment. I don’t. And neither should you.
Imagine looking at America’s gun violence epidemic and deciding that your top priority is putting guns back in the hands of people with felony convictions. This administration’s obsession with more guns and no safeguards certainly tells us exactly who they are fighting for.

Today, DOJ finalized a new path for people who’ve been barred from owning firearms because of criminal convictions to apply to have their gun rights reinstated. The rule is a victory for Second Amendment advocates. Brady President @krisbrown.bradyunited.org responds in @apnews.com.
Our government is failing every single American by making us less safe. Repealing regulations that are a nearly century old on weapons and accessories that are, by definition, particularly useful to someone intent on inflicting the most harm possible is the very definition of the term “reckless.”
Back to school shouldn’t mean back to shootings. Our leaders must act to prevent another campus from experiencing preventable trauma. America continues to fail our students by putting them at risk of gun violence in the very places where they should be safe. My heart is with the VSU community.

Short-barreled rifles, shotguns and silencers can now be bought without federal registration. “DOJ had the opportunity to act to protect our safety, but it failed to do so. Today, the gun industry and silencer dealers are celebrating, while Americans are left less safe.” —Brady President Kris Brown
As you’re getting ready for the first day of school, I have a few items to add to your checklist in my latest Substack post ✏️ 🗒️ 🚌
DHS referencing these shock gloves as nonlethal “de-escalation” tools for ICE raises an obvious question: an alternative to what? Without addressing officer training, oversight, and a culture of excessive force, an electric shock glove is just another weapon officers can use with cruelty.
