Tonight in Mississippi, Trump becomes another nightmare for his security team as he walks past his predetermined left side stage exit (near the row of flags), and unexpectedly walks to the right, going behind the stage.
Security scrambles.
Everyone keeps asking me how I’m feeling about early voting so far.
I’m feeling like nobody *actually* knows anything, and this is the most important midterm of our lives.
I’d rather be us than them, but we can’t get comfortable. We can’t get complacent.
Go vote like we’re down 3%.
In 3 days, Netanyahu will be history. He and his racist, fascist clowns will face the courts on their way to jail, and Israel will belong to its people again.
The insanity ends here. Israel starts the shift to a brighter future, and the rest of the world must follow!

I was taught to look in the mirror first and own my weaknesses. Today too many people hold up a mirror and call it a window, accusing others of exactly what they are doing. Science asks us to check ourselves first. Our country could use much more of that right now.
Last month observed the largest relative warming signal in the Arctic, which is not surprising for this time of year as the sea ice reforms. The tropical (El Niño) signal is really remarkable though.
[Plot shows zonal-mean temperature anomalies, where latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance).]
For 8 years and more, Trump has routinely incited violence against his critics during campaign rallies. This is well documented. And NYT has studiously failed to report any of it. Until today, apparently.

The sea surface temperature at the @scrippsocean.bsky.social Pier is 74.5℉ (23.6℃) today. That is 9.2℉ (5.1℃) above normal.
It is also 1.3℉ (0.7℃) higher than any other reading this late in the year since records began in 1916 (previously 72.3℉/22.9℃ on Oct. 22, 2015). #CAwx#ElNiño
"A world in which the White House is allied to the Kremlin was, until now, the stuff of paranoid fiction. Manchurian candidates and red presidents were fantasies, dark tales Americans told themselves like ghost stories...
"But this alliance now exists."

I've watched science and public health collide in real time, from COVID to polluted air in South Bay San Diego. People deserve to understand the science shaping their lives, and a voice in the solutions. I'm thinking about a podcast built on that. Would you listen? What would make you tune in?
Here's the hard truth: the Earth will be fine. It will keep spinning long after we're gone. What's at risk is us: our health, our children, our future. Vote. Bring everyone you know to the polls. Our lives depend on it.
Today in DC:
"Beginning Saturday, crews will start another major round of cutting at the historic public golf course. The first phase contains 169 trees marked for removal.
The Trump Administration says as many as 529 could eventually come down..."

So proud of my @scrippsocean.bsky.social grad student Aurora Czajkowski, who took the stage last night at Balboa Park's Spreckels Organ Pavilion to share our research on how coastal ocean pollution reaches our air, and what that means for the health of San Diego residents! 🌊💨
🧪🌊 Meet Aurora Czajkowski, a third-year PhD student studying marine chemistry at Scripps! Her research explores how contaminated river plumes move through the coast and how pollution can reach nearby communities. Learn more about Aurora’s research: https://bit.ly/4crVsNY
Bonkers: Sea levels are running 1.2ft above the late-20th century baseline in San Diego as sea surface temperatures are about 7°F warmer than normal. These highly anomalous ocean temperatures and heights will continue through winter along the California coast amid El Niño. #CAwx
A lot of what’s happening doesn’t seem to be spreading anymore by mainstream media. A tree that stood for an estimated 150–250 years was destroyed today to make way for Trump’s border wall.

Trickle-down economics was always a sham.
Nothing has ever trickled down.

Update four weeks after my total knee replacement surgery: zero regrets. I was terrified going in. The photos and horror stories almost made me bail. But I had major instability and bone-on-bone wear bowing my legs, and it was only going to get worse. A thread on what helped. 🧵

Rest in week one. Scar tissue builds slower than you fear (or you are told). Time on the stationary bike kept my knee loose (check with your PT on what's right for you). When the knee gets too tight, I stop pushing and let the swelling settle. Then everything gets easier.

Infection is the biggest risk, so choose a team that takes prevention seriously, from the OR to the front desk. Everyone's path differs by age, fitness, and strength. Mine has gone well, and I feel blessed. Happy to answer questions.

What helped most: family support and a great surgeon w/ team that works as one. Surgeon, PA, nurse, and scheduler are all linked. Good leaders set the standard, and it filters down to everyone. Mine uses the latest techniques: no tourniquet, strong infection prevention, modern pain management.

Pain: I stayed ahead of it. I took opioids for the first few nights, on top of the rest of my plan, including Journavx. Within days I was sleeping 6 to 7 hours a night and walking. The hardest parts were exhaustion and stiffness. I had zero bruising.

Where I am now: my knee feels solid, I'm walking without a cane, I drove for the first time today, and I'm bending at 120° (beyond goal of 90°). Fully straightening is my next focus. I still tire easily, so full recovery will take time, but I'm heading in the right direction.

Eight U.S. Navy sailors assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group attempted suicide during its extended deployment, according to a letter from acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao obtained by CNN. None died.
The solidarity of news organizations in support of CNN, MS NOW & Politico has been encouraging. But how about that same solidarity when Trump abuses a journalist with comments of piggie or ugly or whatever? That means sticking up for your peers & even walking out if this abuser refuses to apologize.
Trump’s final appeal in his rape case was denied.
He is the first President in US history who’s been found guilty of sexual assault in a federal civil court. Felon!
LMFAO -- Trump is holding an event at the White House right now but there's no audio because the press pool isn't there. The Newsmax host notes that this is an example of Trump's attacks on the press "backfiring just a little bit"
Fox News is now defending CNN, which is obviously the smart thing to do. Even they realize the tides always turn. They said, “Don’t ban them. Or one day, they’ll ban us.” The MAGA movement is really falling apart.
Why read past headlines: I spoke with @atrupar.com about his experiences being dogpiled by the White House and their rabid cult followers.
He is resilient and insightful.
