"Indie" software like Blender, Godot, Krita, Inkscape. Software that isn't served to you in a $1000 box that requires a college degree to learn because everyone using the better free alternatives are also putting out free resources for them.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

"I want to use Godot but it doesn't have blueprints so I'll wait" I'm learning gdscript while you wait for a feature that won't arrive. Guess which one of us is making games in a slopless engine. Learning to code is how we resist the onslaught of vibe coded slopware.

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

Godot doesn't need blueprints because A) gdscript is very friendly and fast to code in B) Godot prides itself on its node system, making setting up core game infrastructure easy. Hash out your reusable nodes, resources and components, then start plugging away at adding the meat to the skeleton.

Yea so the great thing about being on Linux is none of my software became unusable today due to servers going offline because none of my software is always-online crap You don't own your tools if someone can disable them

Not a movie but there's a term coined by Star Trek called "growing the beard" that's the inverse of "jumping the shark" - Riker grew a beard in Season 2 of TNG, when the show noticeably got better.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

We are somehow simultaneously "too few for Democrats to worry about" while also being "too pivotal in ensuring Democrats unseat Republicans so we should vote blue no matter what" and it's frustrating to explain this to moderate libs

...Assumption #4 has been driving me batshit, yet no one seems to realize it: if you're worried trans ppl might potentially harm your Dem candidate's chances, then YOUR CANDIDATE MADE A BAD DECISION! so why not join us in trying to get them to reverse position? juliaserano.medium.com/on-democrats...

It's almost like it isn't about how many of us there are (there aren't, were like 1% of the population), but rather about the underlying core aspect of "human rights matter no matter who you are. Abandoning trans rights is abandoning all human rights" That's why they don't get me vote

Usually stuff like "We changed the name of Lake Ontario" isn't enough to get me to switch off Google Maps immediately. However, changing my destination to Taco Bell when I searched specifically by name a local mexican restaurant gets the app an immediate uninstall.

If the Epic Games launcher suddenly starts crashing more often, has more bugs, and takes up more of your PC resources, you now know why.

"We vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher" because "programming is hard", announce company we're somehow supposed to see as a serious Steam competitor https://bit.ly/4hMHbi5

Stuff like this is why I take WotC's "support" of LGBT with a grain of salt because if you truly, unequivocally, unconditionally supported a vulnerable minority group then supporting workers rights is a super non brainer. Its almost like its always about money at the end of the day ...

Yesterday, Wizards informed us that it doesn’t intend to voluntarily recognize the D&D or Studio X units of our union ahead of a vote. We remain committed to creating a workplace focused on wellness, transparency, and collaboration by winning our coming election.

Obviously I do believe there are people in the company who genuinely support LGBT and in fact many of those people are the ones wanting to unionize and who write characters and stories we love. But as company policy, it's just not there. It's always about the bottom line.

Me writing a virus that eventually spreads to government computers because someone plugged in a USB: "It went rogue, its not my fault"

If you want to level up your kitchen, ferment at least one thing. Sourdough, pickles, kombucha, whatever. It's a great way to have that something extra to pair with meals or as an ingredient, plus you learn something new about kitchen chemistry.

Rice can feel like a "poor persons bland food" if prepared poorly and without much thought, such as a lazy side to chicken. However, rice is an excellent pairing with a lot fried - especially Asian - dishes, such as katsu

Meat is expensive, and a lot of Americans think you need a pound of it with every meal with a small helping of veggies and bread. Its quite the opposite. Avoid expensive meats like beef. And a normal serving is a quarter pound. Make a thick savory stew with lots of veggies.

The only way eating at home is more expensive is if either 1) you're buying expensive groceries. Like brand name. And just ignoring the store brand stuff 2) you're literally throwing away food Cent per oz will always add up to less than eating out. Always

Darling. A single night eating out could feed us for a week. And we eat good. Shepherd pie. Pork stew. Salmon with asparagus. Homemade toast and jelly. Some of these replies make it sound like folks are eating beef and expensive deli cheese every meal.
