Film business press: "Zigging is the only thing that works at the box-office. Every studio is demanding zigs and only zigs." Film business press, maybe a year later: "Nobody Saw Zags Coming! Zags Are The New Zigs!"

Apparently there are four Jameses Bond screentesting, and the names of three of them leaked. According to math (or "maths" as James Bond would say), that means you still have a 25% chance of being James Bond! Congratulations!!

Call me, Peter Rice.

I don't think I should run Netflix. But if I did run Netflix, I would spend 0.25% of the $20B annual content budget ($50M) on making weird genre movies with upcoming filmmaking talent. Give them meaningful creative freedom, but also take a first-look on their next movie.

I have been playing this game since the early early demos, and it's so much fun that I invested in the company making it! Count SHEEPS in 2027!

brainfruit!@brainfruit.bsky.social

Can you count? Are you sure? Announcing SHEEPS, a game where you have several thousand problems. Count the sheep pouring out of mysterious portals, gain unfair counting advantages, survive terrible counting curses. Discover, at long last, a use for math. Coming 2027. Wishlist: bit.ly/countsheeps

Both seasons of the BLINDSPOTTING tv show will be on Netflix starting October 20th! If you missed it when it was on Starz, that is completely understandable. But don't miss it when it's on Netflix! I'm so proud of this show, and can't wait for more people to see it.

Also I have learned that you can already search for BLINDSPOTTING on Netflix now, and have it remind you when the episodes are ready to stream!

I'm so sad to hear that the legendary independent film producer Jeremy Thomas has passed away. Jeremy was my first and most important mentor, giving me my first job at a production company and showing me a glimpse of what is possible when you try to "smuggle the impossible into reality."

I think I just sold Disney on an ALIEN spinoff focused on the bank that lends money to Weyland-Yutani. First I wrote "ALIEN" on the whiteboard and then I underlined "LIEN" and then I set off all the cash cannons. Posting this while security escorts me to what I assume will be my production offices.

A lot of weird missteps around the Robin Hood mythology i movies for years. Makes me want to take a crack at my own dream Robin Hood movie, which would be making a Robin Hood that feels like RRR. Lean into adventure, fun, brotherhood, and arrows ripping through the throats of an unjust police state

Drew McWeeny@drewmcweeny.com

Someone's going to lose a job or two over this insane last-minute switch in the marketing push on this film. I want to know who in the fuck thought "The Rise of Robin Hood" was the way to go two weeks before release.

It's crazy that at this time last year IT ENDS was a finished movie with a SXSW launch, five months of rave reviews, multiple film festival awards, a multi-agency frenzy to sign writer/director Alex Ullom, and yet the film had *ZERO* meaningful distribution offers.

Apple reset this setting AGAIN on my computer without my permission. Totally ridiculous.

Keith Calder@keithcalder.com

No matter how many times I uncheck this setting in the App Store, it's turned back on by Apple multiple times a year. What is the point of a setting that they just unset for you whenever they feel like it?

IT ENDS is rad as hell. Not to discourage you from reading my review, but it’s helpful to know little about it heading in.

Today at The Reveal: More reviews. You can read me on THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING (a film that had me then kind of lost me) and @scotttobias.bsky.social on IT ENDS:

big news for my talented cricketer followers!

Iceland Cricket@icelandcricket.bsky.social

We need more talented cricketers in Iceland. If you can play a bit and have an Icelandic grandparent or fifth cousin, get in touch. If you have even watched some films by Baltasar Kormákur, we will think about it.

The X-MEN Logo & Font Generator is live now! Featuring the classic blocky wedge-shape that made the original an instant classic. Now starts the countdown to the inevitable reboot of this generator, in keeping with the spirt of the franchise.

I'm sorry but "a huge number of NYC cabs now are remaindered EVs running grey market software written by some dude in a garage" is the most cyberpunk thing I've ever heard

JarekFA@jarekfa.bsky.social

I asked a driver how they service them since they’re no longer made. He said they have a guy they go to for all the software updates and all that. Even though, it has many missing typical car elements. (Like cruise control or power windows even I believe).

As Neon unleashes It Ends in US theaters, writer-director Alexander Ullom reflects with Isaac Feldberg on his buzzy thriller’s scenic route to release and optimism in the face of nihilism. https://boxd.it/3kc

This is absolute hogwash! You could absolutely make more Blazings Saddle today the same way that we can still keep making more Bads Lieutenant by having Abel Ferrara direct the cast and crew as a mutant growing out of the abdomen of Werner Herzog and/or Takeshi Miike like Kuato from Total Recall.

Gef the Toking Mongoose@geftokingmongoose.bsky.social

You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today because Mel Brooks had to have his head surgically removed and is now living in the abdominal cavity of Jesse Plemons like Krang from Ninja Turtles

I’ll save you a click. 1. IT ENDS (in theaters Aug 21) 2. Blindspotting (the movie) 3. Blindspotting (the TV series) 4. One Night In Miami 5. The Guest 6. You’re Next 7. Anomalisa 8. The Wackness 9. The Devil’s Candy 10. Thunder Soul 11. Little Monsters 12. Corporate Animals 13. Charli XCX: Alone

The ancient bog body Tollund Man, who died around 400 BC, has a more natural looking human face than many living celebrities in 2026.

If you've never seen a bog body, it's a genuinely unsettling experience. This is Tollund Man, who died around 400 BC.

"This is the best pizza I've ever had."

tonx@tonx.coffee

The sex-purge movie can be stupid and nonsensical and that is okay, but the abysmal looking pizza is unforgivable.

Tapped a guy’s car with my hand because he was literally reversing into me as a pedestrian in a crosswalk where I had a walk signal. He spent the next five minutes yelling at me from his car while I kept walking down the street. Glad I got another fun NYC experience before I leave the city tomorrow!

“Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” is a fun and bloody return to what made us Miasmaniacs fall in love with the Camp Miasma franchise all those decades ago!

I have come to learn that the only good forum for sharing creative professional advice is a private forum run by thoughtful people who swiftly and directly intercede when participants with bad faith engagement emerge.

C. Robert Cargill@crobertcargill.bsky.social

I keep thinking about the discourse from the other day suggesting writers are gatekeeping writing information for ourselves and I just think back to 2019 when every writer was out there giving away writing advice until one by one each stopped because social media blows and we can't have nice things.

Also! If the response is swift and reasonable, many of the bad faith participants will adjust to engage with good faith rather than be banned from the forum! Very few people are actively trying to be toxic.

I made a similar joke yesterday, but I guarantee someone at Neon really wants to call this BACKROADS. It's gonna get some comparisons to BACKROOMS, though it premiered over a year ago on the festival circuit, predating the current trends. Cool As fuck vibes driven cosmic horror. Highly recommended.

I appreciate that on Swedish election days you're still allowed to fuck inside the gaping maw of the taxidermied blue whale.

jordan@jordantyranny.bsky.social

The only taxidermied blue whale in the world, 1865 CE, now housed at the Natural History Museum in Sweden. The public was allowed to enter the whale up until a couple was found having sex inside it. Now the whale’s jaws are opened only for special occasions, such as Swedish election days.
