Hi new follower horde 🤭, I'm Kami (like it says on the can). I self-publish mostly sci-fi/fantasy stories that explore gender and technology and relationships. I'm also currently working towards completing some small games to hone my skills for my dream creature-breeding game, 'Go Forth'!

Finished Rachel Reid's Common Goal, the fourth in the Game Changers series. This one is about an age gap romance where the 'old' character is... my age, so that has been something encouraging to think about while I hobble about the house managing my ongoing knee and back pain. 😂 #booksky #spoilers

These two are so obviously compatible I wish their story hadn't just been very childish angst and constant insistence that they couldn't be together almost in the same breath as jumping into bed together. The really interesting story starts right where the book ends and we get none of it!

Anyway, this book is worth reading if only for the few occasions Ilya Rozanov shows up to torment Scott Hunter or to clock everything about Eric's life and current state of mind perfectly. While continuing to hold his own secrets despite being ever more blatant about them. 🤭

Not that Eric's age is really relevant in any meaningful way in this book except that his love interest Kyle has a fixation on and a complex over older guys. Amicably divorced Eric has no kids, he's loaded so his 'retirement' doesn't really mean much, and he appears to have no friends his own age.

NOMAD DRIVE NOW ONLY SUPPORTS STACKS OF UP TO FOUR TYRES my life is suddenly without meaning. 😭

We got a surprise update to the demo for Nomad Drive - well, maybe not so surprising given the full game enters early access in another day or so. Anyway, my old save is now invalidated so pour a mug of gasoline out for my van on my old save with the best ears in a very empty town. 🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞

And it's totally okay because we're already having fun with the new demo, which has some of the most aggressive tumbleweeds I've ever seen and you can still build ears on your tiny van so I'm seated. 🤭

I love digging up some of my old pages from when I was working out the Japanese writing system for the first time through Pokémon ROMs and also noting down Kami knows what else. That crusty old FortuneCity URL. 😭

Delightfully, it turns out that URL is an annotated track listing for the Pocket Monsters Sound Anime Collection soundtrack. Thank you to whoever it was who created this page (and apparently included some mp3s back in the day), I was probably there to find out which track was 涙,のち晴れ. 🤭

A new week begins! (Unless you think the week begins on Sunday in which case pfft. 😆) Been feeling at a bit of a loss since I finished my Lisp book so I'm going to make a start on next month's practical project: resuming harmonica practice.

The problem with harmonica practice these days is the toddler virulently despises all my musical instruments and will be miserable until I put them away... but I can read my Harmonica for Dummies ebook during the day and practice quietly at night when she hopefully won't hear. 🤭

Finished the main story mode of Magikarp Jump the other day, I didn't realise there even were credits to the game, they showed all the Magikarp I raised (that are, uh, still in my pond) and I really love that they retain all that data. It's one of the little things that keeps me coming back.

Sadly the postgame kind of sucks and killed my buzz a bit, I wish they had some sort of infinite battles mode to replace the league instead of making you nonsensically replay the final storyline league.

Would love to make a similar game that perfects all the flaws because it's otherwise a surprisingly satisfying incremental. Don't think I'll ever beat raising Magikarp as a concept though. (Uh oh I have now challenged my brain I guess...)

btw bimbo is free but you can pay a little to get some bonus features (like one-click upload to Neocities and some other hosting providers) also paying for it helps support me, a trans mother who cannot find consistent paid work in this hell economy

seeing an uptick in ppl being like “i wanna make a blog but fuck” and so i feel like it’s a good time to plug my cool website building tool for ppl who don’t care to learn a whole lot about building a website even has a blog template. just get right to it iznaut.itch.io/bimbo

Can't believe it took me two whole days to see this, clearly I need to go harder on posting about my interests on here so the relevant skeets will come to me. (alt text for image following)

‘Wicker’ stars Alexander Skarsgård as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick. But what about splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? We asked a gynecologist: vulture.visitlink.me/DNQwX5

The image is of the wicker guy looking dashing and grave with text 'What Would Happen If You Had Sex With a Wicker Dick? Of course we asked a gynecologist about Alexander Skarsgård's appendage. BY RACHEL HANDLER' over the top. Lol.

Anyway it's funny that some people are complaining that they asked, this is great marketing for a movie I already wanted to see.

Our game's gorgeous menu overhaul. NO AI involved! Just one skilled human programmer, lots of Javascript knowledge, Canvas2D and scalable vector graphics (SVG). Features language switch to Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean. #indiegamedev #gamedev #indiedev #JRPG

My bee is built! 🐝🤖 Of course it's been like eight years and the supplied batteries are dead and in one case mega sus, but I'll just have to get new batteries and maybe read faster next time I make a robot kit assembly a reward for completing a book. 😅

Trying to build my bee robot before bed to keep me awake until laundry is done. The first thing I have done is completely misread the instructions and click two pieces together prematurely and now I can't get them apart to fix the error. 🤡

The instructions assure you pieces can be disassembled and reassembled as many times as you like! I cannot manage to get these two pieces apart. This is a kit designed for children. I am a strong and capable adult.

The problem with doing necessary spring cleaning around the house is it is giving my wife opportunities to perceive certain of my weird hoarded craft objects stashes she may not have been fully aware of previously. 🙄

If I can just get through what promises to be a slightly harrowing Friday morning and afternoon, this weekend I've got my little bee robot to assemble as a reward for completing the Lisp book, plus potatoes to plant. I've rarely felt more threatened with a good time. 😀

FINALLY finished Land of Lisp by Conrad Barski. I've been trying to work through this one and adequately understand the concepts on and off (mostly off) for several years and constantly losing momentum and finally over these past couple months I got fed up and just powered through. 🤭

What I appreciate almost as much as the credible code examples is the effort to explain why the distinct features of Lisp actually matter, and how everything covered in the book comes together at the end in a way you can only appreciate in retrospect. You know it was crafted by someone who cared.

Heck, even if you have no desire to write Lisp code ever this book hits so hard at the moment as an artifact of an era just the other day when building software thoughtfully and intentionally was regularly pitched as a virtue and not an inconvenience.

I love technical books that are a bit weird - I mean genuinely weird, not some committee's idea of quirky: I bounced off the only Head First book I tried fast. This is a genuinely weird book that only a genuinely weird mind could produce and that's become even more refreshing in recent years.

The example games you can follow through developing with the book are great. They start simple enough and really ramp up. You need a decent grasp of data structure theory to make it through but fortunately most software developers have great training in fundamental computing theory so that's fine. 🤡

Saw a kid today wearing a Camp Half-Blood shirt and you know what, maybe I really do believe the children are our future.

IT'S BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF but I am at this moment 91.5% of the way through my Lisp book and it's very likely I can finish it today... beebot I might build you tonight... 🐝🤖

Kami Bee@kami.land

I've had this guy for like six years but promised myself I wouldn't build until I finished reading a particular Lisp book... and then I never finished the book. I think it's past time I finished the book so I can have my beebot. 🤭🐝🤖

My seed potatoes are here! Looking forward to doing a better job with these than I did with last season's. Whatever the results I just love having my potato patch though. 🥔🌱

Been a while since I've written any code because I've been pretty absorbed in my writing, but I've got a cool idea for a little reading practice game that both the kids will get a kick out of. Just got to come up with a goofy name for the project and I can get going. 🤭

Wife picked up this CD of local birdcalls second-hand for me today. After reviewing the included birds I ranted for a while about certain ones I noticed were missing, which is probably the sort of habitual behaviour that made her think I would want the CD in the first place. 🐦

This is your occasional backup reminder - if you haven’t yet, go start setting up backups of any kind. If you think you don’t need backups, delete everything you have on the device you’re using right now. If that seems like a bad idea then you need backups.

Duck would not sleep tonight and just wanted to sit up and watch me play more Paleo Pines, which was not a particularly awful evening as they go but I am going to be seeing dinosaurs in my sleep now. 🦕🥱

Help, waifu wants to get the Project Hail Mary movie to watch this weekend and I'm nowhere near finished with the book because I'm such a disorganised reader. 😭

Had an unsatisfying day yesterday but I did remember to order my seed potatoes for the season and it's not even at frantic season's-end bargain basement prices yet. 🤭🥔
