in dutch it feels really good to start off a swear with a long drawn-out guttural G (ipa /x/, spanish j/ge, german ach-laut)

mijn passive ability is kennelijk dat anytime ik buiten ergens moet zijn, het grotendeels droog blijft

Nintendo policy reportedly prevents Switch 2 game-key card to be reprinted as full cartridge version https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-policy-reportedly-prevents-switch-2-game-key-card-to-be-reprinted-as-full-cartridge-version/

But when we get games like sonic x shadow generations on the cartridge for switch 1 and later as a GKC on switch 2 that’s tooooootally fine

portuguese phonology is cool because i can just go like, you can pronounce my name like “dániel” in portuguese and it will sound more or less exactly as i say it in dutch

ex bf some time back taught me that brazilian names apparently often do that thing where they use wacky variations of a name and told me that doing that with my name made it fit right in lol

also another kinda funny thing is that while both english and german speakers (both neighbouring germanic languages) often struggle with pronouncing our IJ in (randstad) dutch, it’s extremely simple for pt-br because it’s literally just pronounced like “éi” in pastéis

Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!

When trans creators are subtle, people dismiss the trans subtext as “headcanon.” When trans creators are loud and proud, people call it “obnoxious” and “cringe.” They just don’t want us to be represented in media at all. Because they don’t want us to exist at all.

esp compared to english where i just have to surrender and use the english pronunciation of the name because any other way sounds odd

dutch fun fact of the day: irritable bowel syndrome is written as a single word in dutch (prikkelbaredarmsyndroom)

prikkelbaar means irritable (-baar means -able) darm means intestine you can guess the last part

People talk about Bluesky users "being in a bubble" like it's a bad thing but the more I think about it the more I kinda like it? A protective bubble I could deploy for me and my friends sounds great. I wouldn't want to be in it all the time though, maybe if it had a 10 second cooldown and 650 HP?

reddit auto translate is the worst fucking thing there is. it becomes fucking impossible to look up anything about languages or situations in countries that aren’t english or the US, as if their situations apply to the rest of the world too
