I’ve officially accepted a new position. Seven years I’ve been at the current company, my longest stretch so far. It’s incredibly bittersweet, nearly everyone there I’ve worked with has been fantastic, but I must leave. Excited to take on new challenges at the end of the month!

Ugh, goodbyes are so tough. I loved having the chance to mentor and watch my team grow and get to know them so well over the years. And 7 years! It feels so long, like I’ve worked with them for a lifetime. I still have one day left; no tasks left so I imagine I’ll spend it figuring out what to say.

Spending the weekend in California for Blizzcon! Very excited, seeing some friends I haven’t seen since the last one I attended in ‘19. Not to mention it will be a much needed break.

iPhone Duo looks neat! I’m a southpaw though, so a little apprehensive about the right-mounted control cluster. Unlocking with Touch ID seems like it’d be a little awkward. Maybe I’ll test drive it in-store one of these days.

November 5th for the Ocarina of Time remake!! Let’s goooo, it looks nice. Seems like they maybe aren’t doing anything unexpected with the story? 🤔

Thanks to @aturi.to's waypoints package, it was very easy to get a list of clients to display in this popover that I now have on my website. Instead of opening the composer only in Bluesky, you can now click to write a message in an app of your choosing!

We should stop thinking about software as anything other than getting the computer to do what we want it to do for us

Just totally mind blown seeing what folks are doing with Astra, as well as first hand. Some genuinely good starting points for website designs, much better than I’ve seen previous models do. and folks are creating 3D games with it now?! I gotta try that.

Funny that I've never lived in SF, LA, or Denver, the lighter red stretching into northern Missouri _does_ cover my origin, however.

This post is unavailable.

A slightly more interesting day today: At work, we're doing an AWS workshop, Agentic Design Patterns with Claude. I've already been pretty deep with Claude for a while now, but hopefully learn something new. and then halfway through the day, off to a new endodontist! Not looking forward to that.

will stancil is engaging with the Nuclear Discourse Button. i of course said this almost a year ago, and this website was absolutely _not_ ready for the take back then. let's see how it goes now. i think he is right though. gleefully using the word "clanker" makes you a bad person, imo.

The slur “clanker” is a bit like playing a video game that lets you plan and execute a school shooting. Unlike the real thing no actual human is harmed; the damage is instead inflicted on YOU, the person explicitly indulging in a weird fantasy of doing something terrible.

A round of polish, and jzweifel.dev is looking nicer :) You can preview what the site might look like for you (or any handle!) without logging in. Type in eg mooring.page/s/jcsaltereg... to try. Planning on some more polish on the sites, then working on the management side and landing page.

It’s very MVP, but it works by pulling Bluesky, sifa.id, standard.site, and other records out of my PDS and rendering them out into a personal site kind of experience. It also allows for creating more pages, like an about page. Sign in with OAuth and your atmosphere account, try it at mooring.page.

I’ve been letting the machine run on a few projects for a little while now, and I haven’t been as deep in the code. So I decided to tackle a new project, just doing some data analysis over the firehose and historical data, and learning Gleam and BEAM. First time, and seems neat so far!

Has anyone done “discord presence detection, but as a standalone atmosphere app” yet? Thinking of like a minimal desktop daemon that could run standalone or plugin to eg. a future Roomy desktop app, and publishes out records when you are currently playing something, accumulates your playtime, etc.

As more of a backend guy, it’s been cool having the robots spin up a quick and dirty UI on whatever I’m building. However I feel like I’m missing an opportunity to level up my own design skills. Any recommendations on where to start? I was thinking I’d boot up Figma and start moving boxes around.

Hello world! New account, but not new to Bluesky. I continue to be excited to see everything you wonderful people are building. Protocol-minded folks will easily find my other account; let’s keep it our secret for now. 🤫 Can’t wait to share some of what I’ve been building and connect with y’all!

You are up to date.
