All That Remains: A Life In Death (2018) by Sue Black. Stories from a forensic pathologist's career. It's fascinating to hear about a profession that's rarely discussed. Black's writing is full of humour and humanity, I recommend it to all #BookSky 📚

#StormyWeather? Nothing like dipping into the classics on a #rainy #winters day. Here are a few of my favourites. Always keen to hear other people's so please tell me your #BookRecommendations? #WritingCommunity 📚💙 #booksky

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

The Battle of Edgehill took place #OnThisDay in 1642. It was indecisive but is considered the 1st major battle of the #EnglishCivilWar. I first read about it in Peter Acroyd's Civil War. According to him, both sides were shocked by the carnage.🤔 #history #AmWriting #HistoricalFiction 📚💙 #booksky

#HappyFriday. #OnThisDay in 1643: the English Parliament signed the Solemn League and Covenant, agreeing that Presbyterianism would be imposed on England in return for Scottish help to fight the royalists. #EnglishCivilWar #17thCentury #AmWriting #History

Much as we love bookshops, they need more than love to keep going. A bookshop can be the centre of a whole community. Bookshops support authors; organize events. A thriving bookshop teaches the next generation that literacy matters. So don't just love your bookshop: actually buy books there.

86 years ago #onthisday, John Noel Marston, aged 19, was killed on a visit to my mum's cousins. A bomb fell and they were all trapped under 4ft of rubble. Thanks to the Kenley Revival for their brilliant telling of this tragic story. #history #stopwar www.kenleyrevival.org/content/hist...

I just had the most thoughtful conversation and guest author experience with Vanessa Lillie at today’s session of my Cherokee book club, Digoweli! I highly recommend her thrillers if you’re into fast paced fiction featuring strong indigenous women. #booksky

I wrote about Barrie's film in this (open access) journal article. Chesterton's later account of his involvement is more self-reproachful than might be expected of an apparently harmless escapade, because he connects it directly to the outbreak of war.

Your occasional reminder that in the year the First World War began, J.M. Barrie wrote a comedy cowboy film called How Men Love, which was filmed in Essex with G.K. Chesterton and George Bernard Shaw as two of the cowboys. www.nationaltrustcollections.org.uk/object/1274695

Just read Chronicles of a Dyslexic Author, by Giannis Paschos, translated by Alexandra Samothraki and published by @stairwellbooks.bsky.social. Fascinating #memoir detailing challenges faced by #dyslexic children & the exhausting experience of being #neurodiverse. Definitely #recommend. 💙📚 #booksky

One of my favourite books to dip into for observation from the past. Poetry about the River Fleet describes it as a "large tribute of dead dogs to the Thames." What an irresistible setting for #HistoricalFiction! 📚💙#booksky

On #WorldBookDay pick up a real book from a bookshop. Then sit down and read for a while. Allow a storyteller bring you into the world they’ve created. Meet the people the writer wants you to care about. And forget your troubles for a while, big and small. We need stories. #AmReading #Booksky

That's very thoughtful! What a bargain! #fantasynovels

UPDATE! 🌹🎉 I realize not many people have access to much right now, so I put the eBook version of Beyond The Mark down to the lowest I could on Amazon, which is $0.99 Hope this helps it become more accessible, I'd rather continue the story than make money, so I hope you enjoy! #Fantasy #Author

That's a relief! I thought the whole country was this bad.

Funny how folks like to say that humanities degrees are “useless” while the world is being actively destroyed by people not knowing about history, ethics, media literacy, or how to think critically. But sure, tell me again how STEM alone will save us.
