Karim Wafa-Al Hussaini

I HAVE BIG NEWS 🎉🎉 I am so happy to share with you all the release of my first book: a poetry collection dedicated to the heritage of indigenous people and the histories of our ancestors. It is now available in Amazon stores across the world with worldwide shipping.

there are elders in my bones whom i have never met. their prayers are tucked and hidden beneath my skin. their courage is threaded through my hair. i walk into the world thinking i am alone, until i remember who walks with me.

A society that does not read is a society that does not think.

I don’t think wanting people to have food, healthcare, shelter and a life outside of work should be a controversial political opinion.

It’s actually insane that we’re expected to spend the majority of our lives working just to afford the right to continue living.

Congratulations to Lula and the people of Brasil. You taught the United States and the whole world a valuable lesson: when people come together, they will not tolerate fascism, corruption, inequality, and the destruction of nature and democracy.

A win for Brasil. A win for humanity. For people and nature. Lula fought against fascism, multinational corporations, totalitarianism, and the forces trying to undermine democracy. Let this be a reminder that when people come together, a better world is always possible. 🇧🇷💪🏽❤️

“underdeveloped land” bro that’s nature

Sharing this poem again because I think the world needs these words now more than ever.

Art doesn’t have to be explicitly political to have political significance. Sometimes simply showing people a reality they’ve been taught to ignore is enough to make them question the world they thought they knew.

I would love to see AI being used to help repair the damage humans have done to nature by cleaning up our planet, removing plastic from our oceans, restoring damaged ecosystems, and protecting endangered species. Instead, it’s being used to destroy humanity and accelerate the end of the world.

my newest poem

One of my favorite parts of being an author is hearing from people who’ve read my book. Getting an email from someone telling me what a poem made them feel is such a beautiful, uniquely human experience. You write a book alone, and then somehow, it connects you to people you’ve never met.

The system depends on people being too exhausted to question why housing, food, water, healthcare, education, and rest became luxuries instead of basic human rights.

Storytelling is one of the last sacred things in the world. That’s why they mock it, because they know what it can do. They know that stories teach people how to listen, remember, resist and remain human. And anything that teaches people how to feel is a threat to a world built on forgetting.

The end of the world will begin with the end of thinking.

willow trees are living poetry

they called our ancestors demons so we learned to fear the footsteps that gave us life. now every night the dead leave flowers at our door kiss our foreheads and whisper: “you were never meant to be afraid of us” — from my new collection of dark gothic anti-colonial poetry

The world feels different now.

If your empathy is based off of race, ethnicity, religion or identity, then it is not empathy.

They say they hate “wokeness,” but what they really hate is empathy. Because once you start caring about other people’s experiences, inequalities become harder to ignore, and privilege becomes harder to defend.

Nolan Wells. That’s it. That’s the message.

Capitalism wants you to pick one interest and choose a niche. Your spirit wants you to express every aspect of your being because authenticity cannot be contained in one box. Unapologetic expression is liberation.

Do not be afraid to feel. To feel in this world that is hell-bent on making you lose your empathy is one of the most courageous things you could ever do.

The people who say politics has nothing to do with ordinary life are often describing the privilege of not having to notice where power touches theirs.

The world has enough spectators. Become someone’s evidence that goodness still exists.

we emptied the rivers to hydrate data centers while humanity died of thirst

If your compassion has a nationality, a religion, a culture, or a race, it is worth asking what you actually mean when you say compassion.

Funny how many of those saying “I don’t take sides” only say so pertaining to Palestine, but they willingly took sides when it came to Ukraine. It’s nothing but selective empathy. You’re neutral when it’s convenient, and you only show solidarity when it’s socially acceptable.

Power fears empathy because empathy refuses to rank human worth.

I have come to the conclusion that people who are not concerned or angry at the current state of the world have been successfully stripped of their empathy as well as any remaining sliver of humanity because how can you witness the removal of all life on earth and not bat an eye?

It’s always the countries that contribute the least to climate change that have to bear the brunt of its consequences.

The planet is overheating because greed has no natural predator.

omg Dolly Parton nooo 💔

Every empire convinces people that exhaustion is noble.

I don’t want data centres. I want trees and nature. I want bees and biodiversity. I want clean drinking water. I want to go back to the way things were when we were one small step closer to nature. Without water we have no life on earth. I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to understand.

If you’re not mad, exhausted, or radicalized right now: congrats on the privilege. The rest of us are just trying to survive the simulation without losing our minds.

The ICE agents of today are the Klansmen of yesterday.

We taught machines to imitate human voices. Now we must teach humans to stop speaking like machines.

Reading is the greatest act of resistance in an age designed to destroy attention. We are currently witnessing the biggest war over human attention in recorded history.

Jason Arday is yet another painful example of how academia is still a tool of empire used to protect and defend white supremacy. We’ve been warning for years that the system can offer us a seat at the table without ever surrendering the pillars of injustice used to build it.

What’s one book that everyone raves about that you read but just didn’t get the hype?

Nature does not need saving from us nearly as much as we need saving from the outrageous illusion that we somehow stand outside of it.

The problem with the world is that the oppressed are constantly asked to explain their pain in ways that make the comfortable feel comfortable.

A society obsessed with productivity eventually forgets how to recognize humanity outside of performance because everything in society has to be trendy, profitable or turn into content. This is not sustainable.

The problem with the ‘modern world’ is that people romanticize Indigenous cultures while actively participating in the very same systems that destroy Indigenous lands and ways of life.
