RIP Ryu Murakami

Hey comic community, Debbie who runs @excaliburcomicspdx.bsky.social is going through a hard time right now and she and her family could use some support. If you feel like giving or sharing that would be appreciated.

We are sad to learn that Japanese writer Ryū Murakami has passed away at 74 years old. Murakami wrote the 1997 novel AUDITION which was adapted into Takashi Miike's horror masterpiece. He also wrote the novels Almost Transparent Blue and Coin Locker Babies. Rest in Peace.

Ryu Murakami passed away today. Loved Coin Locker Babies, Audition, and Tokyo Decadence. Truly some brilliant, messed up, nevertheless amazing writing.

THIS is an instrumental part of rape culture. This is the wider societal enabling of rape and smearing victims. This is what survivors often identify as the most traumatic part of the experience, and as a journalist who believes survivors I can say it’s one of the worst parts for me, too

For me, the hardest thing about stories like the Cornell gang rape case isn’t reading the initial details—although that is hard. What’s even harder is when men online, especially the journalists and pundits, start trying to combat the feminist outrage by purposefully seeding doubt and victim-blaming

Jesus make it stop

At the theater this morning…

Artists, QRP with your favourite portrait you’ve drawn.

Got so much cool art hitting my inbox this week it’s so awesome. Been staring at spreadsheets so much this week too it’s been breaking my brain.

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it? 😭

Paris, Texas playing at the local bar.

Saw HOPE tonight. What an insane flick.

Bwahaha yis

Who is Ed Sheeran. Is he a horse. Does he wear a bow tie.

I just ate a really good reuben sandwich and I’m feeling less unpleasant than I usually do. Also, it was great to see so many of you at RCCC this weekend.

Did portfolio reviews for the first time. It didn’t end in exploding flames and gushing pig blood and no one threatened to blow up my car, so I assume it went well.

i feel like we just need to admit to a lot of young people that our systems completely failed them. we let digital tools in the classroom and social media algorithms use them like lab rats and now half of them cannot have a basic, polite human interaction.

I never have anything interesting to say on this site anymore. But hi. I just re-watched a lot of movies this weekend. Alien Fargo Phantom Thread The Thing Akira Sentimental Value

ALIEN is still so good. Years later I realize Ash is much more frightening than the xenomorph.

More news of comic dudes who get off on hurting others. Are they blaming James Bond too.

Stress ate three big bowls of curry. youtu.be/ozXZnwYTMbs?...

This is the kind of post you never want to fucking make, but here we are.If you have any questions or if you've worked with Artyom recently/were planning to work with him on something soon, please DM me.

Hey comics people, friends & colleagues. As of today, our friend @artyomtopilin.bsky.social is under house arrest in his home town of Tolyatti due to ongoing FSB investigation. We don't have much details yet, but his computer and phone were taken by the police, so communication with him is hindered.

If you haven't seen it, you need to watch the ep of Tales from the Crypt where Tim Curry plays a whole scary family

I hate to post this right now but my son’s been in the hospital He’s home & fine now. Anyways, anything helps. I’ll be posting preorders for the new comic within the week. Thanks 🙏 ko-fi.com/derekmballard
