Thread of my “parenting is easier and harder than it seems” threads. (Which boils down to “be honest with kids and treat them as people not property”)

In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

Wikipedia tells me Bouganvillea is originally South American and was widely spread by French and British colonists and really I suppose that when I noted the connection I knew what the answer was going to be, but hey if I ever get into Bonsai I learned a popular species so it was good research.

Still not sure what to call this book. CoSEFitGGHSS doesn’t really roll off the keyboard. So I suppose it’ll be Compendium at least for now.

Raising a newborn baby is the closest I've ever come to "gender is a construct" A baby has no gender. They're all shaped like babies. My baby doesn't care about the color of their clothes or toys People assign a gender when greeting my kid and apologize if that greeting doesn't match their sex

“… one of the few supernatural entities known to be vocal men’s rights activists” is a good line. (Also, I have now encountered Bouganvillea flowers described precisely twice: Stan Rogers‘ “Lock Keeper“ and Manickavel’s “Compendium”. I’m unsure what to make of this.

I remember the beanbag chair I was sitting on and the classroom I was in when I first read this line. 5th grade. I couldn’t decide whether it would be worth it.

And no one knows how many of the dolphins that leap in the waters of the Inmost Sea were men once, wise men, who forgot their wisdom and their name in the joy of the restless sea.

Award winning book from about a decade ago still good. More breaking news soon.

My memory of Ancillary Sword is that I read it once, enjoyed it, was surprised by what I got after Ancillary Justice, that there’s a fair amount of “comedy of manners” and that figuring out the “actual” gender of the Radch characters is more relevant than in Ancillary Justice

Frodo wakes. ‘Where am I?’ ‘In the House of Elrond. It is ten o’clock in the morning. The morning of October the twenty-fourth, if you want to know.’ ‘Gandalf!’ ‘Yes, I am here. And you are lucky to be here, too, after all the absurd things you have done since you left home.’

“Is it True what they say?” Hadestown still hits. (And is available on your platform of choice, I believe).

Before long they saw in the distance the towers and flags of Dictionopolis sparkling in the sunshine, and in a few moments they reached the great wall and stood at the gateway to the city.

In addition to the procedural noncompliance, however, the plaintiffs' lawyers — relying, in part, on the work of @gillianbrockell.com (Exhibit A) — also raise questions of substantive noncompliance.

Had 2 sheep get surgical procedures today and now need pain meds, which means I can confirm we have 1 sheep who likes fruit bars, and non like marshmallows, but our goat likes them.

Hermes is normally a cuddly gentle giant, but after getting his shoulder shaved and a lump removed he is Not Happy With Me. (Hopefully time and fruit bars will get me back in his good graces)
