Man have I been busy. Although I have only written about 20,000 words this past month, life never stops. Work, renovations, preparing to be a father, and sending out submissions is a lot. Fortunately, it keeps me so busy that I can ignore the world being a dumpster fire.

“Lost media” no longer! I finally got permission to upload “AL’S BRAIN,” an 11-minute educational 3-D film attraction which ran at the Orange County and Western Washington fairs, and hasn’t been seen publicly since 2009. You can watch the whole thing here: youtu.be/2xujU87ZHt4

Absolute longshot: I'm looking for Euan Smith who drew artwork for White Dwarf magazine in the mid 1980s and therefore is probably British and probably in his late 50s or 60s. Do you or did you know him?

I mean, gunpowder (and thus firearms by extension) had a place in LotR. Tolkien shows Gandalf using fireworks for merriment, while Saruman use explosives for war. (Though, it wasn’t directly called black powder, but portrayed that way in the movies.) Just write.

Album Sheet with Two Armadillos, unknown artist, c. 1550 - c. 1570 During the 16th century the armadillo became the symbol of the Americas. It was often depicted on prints and maps, and dried specimens were collected in cabinets of curiosities. (Rijksmuseum)

Because of travel last month, and revelations that Google Drive could be scraping information for LLMs, the friendly writing competition I had going among some acquaintances died. #ayearofwrites may return in the future once a stable schedule and hosting platform for sharing our files can be found.

"We can't afford to let the human consequences of nuclear war become an abstraction," write Victoria Kelly and Karin Tanabe, whose documentary, "Atomic Echoes: Untold Stories of World War II" explores the legacy of nuclear war through interviews with both American veterans and Japanese survivors.

"They’re called “atomic veterans”—servicemen who arrived in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the weeks after the bombs were dropped." Fewer than 10 of these American atomic veterans were still alive when the authors began making their film. Here's what they told them:

Bounty hunters have been drawn to Whisko Reach by rumours of a reward. Details seem curiously hard to come by but they are sure it's good pay for easy money. Several fights break out across the Reach's habitats and you are asked to help keep order in space.

I had a dead juniper tree on one of the property lines that I needed to cut down, so now I get to use it for “research” by turning it into a new longbow since I’ve never used anything related to yew for a bow. Or I could sit down and write some more instead of messing around in the garage.

When Lord #Elgin stripped the Treasury of #Atreus at #Mycenae in 1802, he left its monumental entrance a bare, undecorated skeleton. We look at these fragments today and forget they were once part of a dazzling Late Bronze Age façade. #ReliefWednesday #AncientBluesky 🏺
