An odd phenomenon … and have run the only annual zine fair in Tasmania for 13 years and no major institution has ever promoted it on their socials or newsletters. It has been necessarily underground. The last 2 years I have campaigned for more zine fairs and this year we have THREE NEW ONES …

Tassie is a VERY small place and the Small Press Zine Fair that I run is super large and popular despite no one helping to promote it … usually it’s the Zinesters themselves that bring the audience in … in many ways they ARE the audience … but

One is in a small art space in Launceston named Sawtooth ARI. Even the museum in Launceston shared the event on their socials, which is great. Down in Hobart the State Library has organised a zine fair which was suggested by a staff member who had been talking to me about how to get them to …

agree to their space being put to use for such an event. She was successful and they have taken it on. And now the Tas Writers Centre, the ABC, various community arts orgs and EVERYONE is promoting the zine fair. It’s quite exciting. Not to put a rain on their parade at all …

It began, as all writers festivals do, with zero comics authors being programmed … and it ended, as with lots of writers festivals these days, with comics authors being annoyed they cant join the walkout.

Well done Danielle Wood for this engaging article in the Hobart Mercury about Tasmania’s precious Hare Clark voting system and the woman whose name should be added to those of Hare and Clark.

I really dislike this smug, disingenuous, baseless type of critique of Greta Thunberg. For all the millions of narcissists, egotists, charismatic villains and disrupters, she’s a bleeding heart with the courage to take action beyond words. www.smh.com.au/world/middle...

smh.com.auActivists like Greta Thunberg care more about fame than factsWhen it comes to the moral high road, the likes of Thunberg seek to occupy ALL of it, no matter how muddled the thinking. This is precisely the problem.
