Nothing I write starts with the thought, "Oh, I can SELL that." (Though, that may explain a lot.) Whether short fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, they all begin as something *I* would like to read. And, I hope you might, too. I've opened a TikTok shop supposedly good for authors (see the replies).

Watch the last dual episode drop of #VisionQuest, then read my review to see why #Paladin and maybe even #Ultron could become heroes. Also an old frienemy honors time with patience returning to the #MCU in a sneaky #12Monkeys reunion. fandomrising.com/202...…in-as-mcu-heroes/

Check out my review of #TheGildedAge Season 4, as the #DowntonAbbey replacement series on HBO feels like it's gearing up to say "Goodbye" after the merger of Skydance and Warner Bros. www.cbr.com/the-gild...

Speaking of "Mary Sues," I recently wrote over at CBR about why #Reacher is one of my favorite big, dumb, and awesome action franchises right now. Check it out. www.cbr.com/reacher-...

Fans from #StarTrek to #StarWars and any other genre fiction think they know what "a #MarySue" means. Chances are you don't actually. My friend Emily O'Donnell wrote one of my favorite essays about it. Check it out. Because Mary Sue deserves more respect. fandomrising.com/202...

My friend and colleague Taylor Bauer wrote an essay about the end of #BioWare, the home of #Kotor, #DragonAge and #MassEffect. Since our choices matter, choose to read this one. fandomrising.com/202...

Part-review, part analysis of how a once smart show went so wrong, I veered slightly back into political media criticism by covering #RealTime with #BillMaher. fandomrising.com/202...

As I continue to dig through the #StarTrek films for the greatest quotes across a half-century of movies, one #StarTrekGenerations moment is the peak of a crucial #StarTrekTNG relationship. I explain at the link. www.cbr.com/star-tre...

A novel/series idea I've had for 20 years is almost finished. Ahead of it, check out my other fictional universe 2 decades in the making. Tales of Adventure & Fantasy Omnibus collects 2 volumes of literary short stories inspired by superhero comic books. tinyurl.com/JMP412

Check out my review of #Clayface, which is heavier on body horror than #DCU worldbuilding & connections. I go into what worked for me and what didn't, without spoilers. If you're on-the-fence about seeing this #DCStudios film, this can help you decide. fandomrising.com/202...

With the #Paramount and #WarnerBros merger complete, the big #StarTrek reset has a multi-billion-dollar obstacle ahead of it that has nothing to do with skeptical fans. I explain what I mean and the history behind it at the link. www.cbr.com/star-tre...

My mid-season review for #VisionQuest as the show introduces its real villain(s?) after slowing its pace to double down on character and its deeply emotional (yes, EMOTIONAL) storytelling. This is why it is the greatest #MCU show since #WandaVision. fandomrising.com/202...

While #ProjectHailMary is one of the greatest #scifi films of 2026, the forthcoming #DunePartThree will bring this epic space opera to a close with Denis Villeneuve's gorgeous cinematic style and a gripping, powerful story. I explain at the link. www.cbr.com/dune-par...

The new #Clayface movie from #DCStudios is NOT a traditional comic book movie, but is as advertised: a full-on body-horror feature. Fans of the #DCU can chew on what it sets up for some time, but casual moviegoers get a standalone thriller with an antihero they can root for.

There are just six episodes of #StrangeNewWorlds left, which means they have limited time to finish one of the best expanded backstories the show introduced from the original #StarTrek series connected to Nurse Chapel. www.cbr.com/star-tre...

Good news! #Carrie gets a Season 2 from #PrimeVideo. I'm really interested to see where this show goes next.

See my previous post for my CBR article about why #Cupertino is both TV's best new legal drama and stealth #scifi show. But check out my FULL interview with Nik Dodani at Fandom Rising, by heading to the link posted below. fandomrising.com/202...

I wrote about why #Cupertino is a stealth #scifi show, along with being the smartest legal drama on TV right now. And I got to speak to the great Nik Dodani about what it's like behind the scenes at the show. www.cbr.com/cbs-cupe...

With #VisionQuest and, now, #Cupertino, there's a lot of stories about synthetic intelligences on TV Right now. Which is why it's worth sharing my recently re-published retrospective about #PersonOfInterest, one of the best tech-based sci-fi shows ever. www.cbr.com/jj-abram...

Ahead of the debut of #VisionQuest, time-travel into the pasts of series creator Terry Matalas & cast members Todd Stashwick & Emily Hampshire (and Amanda Schull) as they talk about their first show together, #12Monkeys. Never-before-told stories and loads of fun in this interview. Link in replies.

There is a lot I loved about #VisionQuest's first two episodes, but this Emily Hampshire bit legitimately made me laugh out loud very hard when she dropped down out of nowhere. 😙👌

Margaret Sullivan's media criticism is always worth reading. Today she grades news stories about the midterms on whether they got beyond the horserace and focused on the stakes. @sulliview.bsky.social

Visionquest Oct. 14th. Disney+

More from my interview with #ToyStory5's Jason Katz. In this piece, we talk about why there have been some pretty good #Pixar movie ideas we've NEVER seen. An interesting look at the storytelling process www.cbr.com/pixar-mo...

So, we've done a lot of TV and Movie criticism over at Fandom Rising, but of course comics are on the radar, too. Check out this review of the first #MarvelMidnight title, and let us know at the site which comics you want to see covered! fandomrising.com/202...

This image from the #12Monkeys series finale is a hilarious payoff to a Season 1 joke, but it goes even deeper than that. Find out how & other insider secrets in my sprawling interview with the co-creator and key cast before watching them in #VisionQuest! fandomrising.com/202...

My in-depth but spoiler-free review of #VisionQuest! Terry Matalas & collaborators have achieved something truly special, and it is the peak of the kind of storytelling the #MCU makes possible. It is beautiful, sad, hopeful, funny, and action-packed. www.cbr.com/visionqu...

Biggest Fandom Rising story yet: Part One of my exclusive interview with #VisionQuest's Terry Matalas, @ToddStashwick, @EmilyHampshire, and #SpiderNoir's @AmandaSchull gracing us with an oral history of the greatest television show ever made: #12Monkeys. fandomrising.com/202...

You should take the time to read Steve Wacker's speech from NYCC's Retailer Day. It's a good one, and good on @comixace.bsky.social for tracking it down to publish on The Beat.

If you were ever targeted by the Gamergate horde from 2024 onward, I'd love to talk to you briefly for a short section in my book! Reply, DM me, or email me at alyssamerc@gmail.com. Signal boost!!

Speaking of #MarvelStudios on Disney+, another NYCC announcement about an #MCU adjacent series also has larger ramifications for the universe's future. Specifically, the kind of commitment any project or "phase" requires to win investment from fans. www.cbr.com/disney-a...

So, we finally got confirmation from #MarvelStudios about the new live-action show #Zodiac, and while its mostly a mystery, one aspect about it might be the saving grace for the #MCU on Disney+ after they cancelled #DaredevilBornAgain. More at the link! www.cbr.com/disneys-...

The latest #Stargate news is exciting, but some hardcore fans are convinced it's a bad sign. One skeptical Stargater explains these fears, and how Amazon/MGM can turn the discourse around for the better so this revival gets a fair shot at success. fandomrising.com/202...

So, it looks like the end for #StrangerThingsTalesFrom85. For better or worse, this animated spinoff works as a proof-of-concept for the #StrangerThings show fans 'need.' It would elevate the story and 'fix' some narrative issues the final season missed. www.cbr.com/netflix-...

Really proud of this interview with the #12Monkeys gang, which is why I keep sharing it. Also because these sites suppress posts with links in them (they want folks like me to pay to show it to you), so any likes, RTs, or organic posting of links immeasurably helps any writer get eyes on their work.

Nic Cage, forever a real one.

While it is fantastic on its own, #VisionQuest works even better as a sequel to #WandaVision, perhaps even more so than #AgathaAllAlong. It's a deeply emotional and human (as ironic as that may be) story that is also not embarrassed to be a superhero TV show. Brilliant and fun!

I unpack the #LanternsFinale and why even if it wasn't the #Lanterns show you hoped it would be, it was still a triumph for the #DCU and comic book adaptations. For better AND worse, I dig into what pleased me, disappointed me, and what really mattered. fandomrising.com/202...
