Using OSINT and geolocation methods, I figure out where people's videos were recorded (when they ask me to do that)

It occurred to me that maybe I should introduce myself 🤪 You should follow me here if you want to hear what I have to say about all sorts of nerdy topics, but go subscribe to my YouTube channel if you're interested in watching my #geolocation videos! www.youtube.com/@josemonkey

It’s my TikTok Anniversary! 🎉 I posted my first geolocation video on TikTok 4 years ago today! 😮 I’m going to hop on TikTok Live for a bit at 8pm eastern (about 20 minutes from right now) - come say hi!

Oh! I also did the impossible recently and *finished* a side project! I know, I didn't know that you could do that, either! I read up on geodata visualisation in python and made some pretty pictures from the data of @josemonkey.com, the #geolocation YouTuber I enjoy. I think these came out nice. 😎

It's back to school time! That means it's time for a reminder about how to be safe when posting photos of your kids on the first day of school. #PSA #backtoschool

The latest episode of the @talkintauntauns.bsky.social podcast just dropped, and I'm on it! I sat down with Jim Lehane to talk about my geolocation work, but also about my love of all things Star Wars... and how those two interests can sometimes overlap! www.talkintauntauns.com/2026/08/ep-2...

talkintauntauns.comEp 232 - Talkin' Star Wars and Geolocation with josemonkeyWe are joined today with famed geolocation expert, josemonkey. Josemonkey has made a name for himself "finding people who ask to be found", ...

I had planned to post a new geolocation video today, but I ran out of time to get it done. It should be out tomorrow, though, and I hope you guys feel it is worth the wait 😅 It was a very hard to find location!

Many people have suggested that I should try to win the Redfin Great American Home Search contest - which might be over already? - but guys, I'm pretty sure that I am not even allowed to play 😅

By Redfin's fairly broad definition in the official rules, I believe that I would be considered a "Professional Geo-Location Analyst" and therefore not eligible to participate - or help others!

Just fyi, if you buy Chad nuggets, he frequently sends a thank you video in return. He just recorded this one for our buddy James who likes to make sure your boy Chad doesn’t go hungry.

Woo hoo, I reached 30K subscribers on YouTube! If you're currently considering abandoning TikTok, just a reminder that I post on YouTube, too, and now would be a great time to start watching me there 😜

I don't know if everyone knows this, but as a YouTube creator, when you are looking at people's comments on your videos, it will try to auto-suggest things you could say in reply. I assume these replies are AI-generated. They are often spot on, and frankly it's a bit unsettling.

As you'd expect, it tries to predict what I would say in response. But it is eerily accurate at times. It must be parsing the content of the video itself and my other responses - possibly across all videos? - because not only does it answer questions correctly a lot, it often *sounds* like me.

I never use the suggested replies, but I have to admit it's honestly more as an act of protest than because the responses are bad. That's what makes me mad; they're too freaking good. Or perhaps I'm too predictable.

I'm so glad I decided to add the guessing element to my failure compilation. I have learned where 3 of the 4 locations are, and my guesses weren't too bad! I'm pretty sure the last one is going to be WAY OFF though 😅 I'll make a follow-up video as soon as I can!

I posted a geolocation failure compilation today, and this time I decided to do something different: For each location, I'm taking a guess at where it might be, even though I don't know for sure. Once I learn the actual locations, I'm going to calculate a score based on how close / far off I was.

My YouTube Year in Review is convinced I’m a world traveler because I’m watch a lot of city walkthroughs, travel vlogs, etc. More often than not, I’m trying to learn to pronounce a city name or trying to verify what a location oooks like 😝 I felt that this award seemed appropriate, though!

My next geolocation video for "Airport Week" should be up around 3PM today in the One True Time Zone (i.e., eastern), so let's hope TikTok decides to show it on your fyp! 😅 (It will also be on YouTube, of course.)

(Yes, I stole the timezone joke from the Co-Main Event Podcast, but it's ok because those guys got it wrong anyway and think MT is the One! 🤦‍♂️ So silly.)
