RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

"Percent of income spent on housing" continues to be a sort of silly metric. 1.) It's almost always ~33% 2.) When it's not ~33% it's generally because of a subset of the population is not working (ie, the Florida numbers are because there are retirees without "income")

David H. Montgomery@dhmontgomery.com

Median rent as a share of median income of renter households in major U.S. metros, 2010 vs. 2024. Minneapolis is lowest on the list, at 29%, down from 30.4% in 2010. www.artio.so/dataviz/page...

If Dems win the House they could literally spend years trying to untangle the question of how many women and children Trump raped/help rape. Anyone Trump pardons is someone who loses the right to plead the 5th.

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

Basically the rise of the "new" fascist leaning right was funded mainly by Orban government (which for dumb EU reasons was propped up by the money from the EU)

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

I feel like "the projects people propose will need to fit the requirements of those funds" stuff should maybe be in the proposed charter language. It isn't there though, is it? Did the PCEF board sign off on this? The Parks Levy Oversight Committee? Water ratepayers? Did petition-signers know this?

your2centspdx.bsky.social@your2centspdx.bsky.social

The $16 million for Y2C comes from the entire $8.5 BILLION Portland city budget. Yes, much of that money is in "restricted" funds. It will be the city's job each year to decide which restricted funds to use and the projects people propose will need to fit the requirements of those funds.

Trump wasn’t “empowered” after his first impeachment. He lost re-election the same year! After the second impeachment, Dems simply stopped talking about him, assuming if they ignored him, he’d go away. That was obviously a mistake.

Your 2 Cents PDX is funded by democracy groups from Portland: East County Rising Action Fund, Next Up Action Fund, and Participatory Budgeting Oregon. Improving democracy/representation is central to their missions. They have been saving up for this democracy campaign for years. What is the problem?

Doubt? Absolutely. Misinformation? No. Implementation? At the WW interview, the proponents for the life of them couldn't explain how it is supposed to work so they talked about the Metro program instead. yt-clip.cc/watch/a6no-E...

It's easier for the opposition to sow doubt and spread misinformation to stop a campaign than is it to help implement it on the other end. You write as if it's a BAD thing that there are folks who want to see more participation for East County. They are the strongest supporters, which says a lot!

How is this "in-kind" nonsense legal in Oregon? From last week, here's a nice round number of $25k of "in-kind" support for "campaign consulting" for "General Operational Expenses" purposes. Even in old-school Baltimore campaigns, "walking-around money" had more documentation than this.

WHO is throwing over $1 Million in dark money at this 2¢ campaign and WHY? Apart from the *many* other issues with this ill-conceived ballot measure, that amount of secret cash alone is reason enough to Vote NO on BM 26-267. (BM is right.)

Quick update on this. According to a filing yesterday, East County Rising dropped another quarter of a million of dark money into the Dumb Two Cents Thing™. Dark money is now 95% of the $1.1M Yes campaign. Anyway, thoughts and prayers for your YouTube watching over the next week.

The Ramaswamy campaign not only tried to capitalize on a child rape victim, they did it by using an old homeless woman who—while vile—is in no mental shape to adequately understand the stakes. And did they pay her? Either answer is bad.

California YIMBY@cayimby.bsky.social

Inclusionary zoning cuts housing construction by as much as a third, argues a PRI commentary citing a July UC Irvine study. Builders must set aside homes or pay a fee, which raises project costs and makes fewer projects pencil out. www.pacificresearch.org/inclusionary...
