New: I wrote about everyone intently watching the long process of removing Trumpβs name from the Kennedy Center and how it revealed our insatiable thirst for accountability β and for his humiliation.

I really think Trump's Iran threat is a breaking point. We just learned that the GOP won't step up even when its leader threatens unthinkable war crimes and even genocide. This realization of powerlessness in the face of this madness will take a deep psychic toll. newrepublic.com/article/2087...

Remarkable: Majority of working class voters oppose deportations of undocumented immigrants with jobs/no criminal records, per new Marquette data. Remember how pundits said 2024 meant Dems must become restrictionist to win back working class? I challenge that here: newrepublic.com/article/2059...

"If ICE murdering people in the streets doesnβt warrant immediate relief, what does? The most facile β but nonetheless true β answer is that the Supreme Court can do whatever it wants, but other courts canβt."
This part struck me: ...thereβs this whole MAGA theory that the problem with America is diversity. And we have too much diversity and thatβs why we have so much discord or whatever. And itβs really a case of the arsonist setting the house on fire and then complaining that itβs too hot in there. 1/3
"The thing I found most inspiring in Minnesota was watching all these people who were so committed to helping the people around them. It was a politics of love." On the pod, @adamserwer.bsky.social is just brilliant all throughout. One great insight after another: newrepublic.com/article/2057...

Both actions stand on their own as horrible decisions. The fact that they occurred simultaneously highlights in great contrast Trump's corruption and disregard for the rule of law.
Awful: Trump just admitted in a new interview that he knows "very little" about the Honduran ex-president he pardoned. This guy trafficked a gazillion times more drugs into the US than anyone Trump has executed. Wrecks his case for the boat bombings. New from me: newrepublic.com/article/2041...

Don't take your policy out in public, it's unseemly. Your policy is not your message. The *outcome* of your policy is your message - the life it will deliver for people. In other words, sell the brownie, not the recipe, like every effective marketer knows.
one of the things i think is that policies answer the question of βwhat will you doβ but they donβt answer the question of βwhy should i vote for youβ and i think there is a tendency in this broad conversation to equate the two

I agree π― and have been saying this for months. It's time to stop debating the fascists and to start using language to pressure change. This playbook shows how we can do just that to force the fascists to back down: https://americanmanifesto.news/fighting-fascism-the-battleplan-to-break-the-regime
I've said this before, but IMO we need to spend less time OBSERVING that Trump is engaged in authoritarian corruption and more trying to use language to build pressure to stop it. Same with Tom Homan's bribe. Yes, it was a bribe. Who can we embarrass politically for letting it happen.
