Jonas Schürmann

Last week, 19 people joined our local-first meetup in Cologne, a follow-up to @localfirstconf.com. Thank you to @komiljonmaksudov.bsky.social and @jonas-schuermann.name for the talks, to everyone who came, and to our team at UMH for organizing. Next one: January or February. Recordings follow.

I cooked up a fun little CRDT demo for my talk at the first-ever Local-First Cologne meetup (luma.com/pks076r4) this thursday. Try it yourself: pixel-crdt.jonas-schuermann.name

Why is this silly game so much fun? Who knew that 4 @kandake.africa's add up in 2 @pds.dad's which roll up into a single @trezy.codes? 🤯 And half a @renderg.host equals a @aka.dad ?!?! 2048.social

Playing around with an idea: responsive code. The build script creates up to 5 versions of each code sample using Prettier, and a container query displays the right one. Brotli means the filesize overhead is very small. Live demo: jakearchibald.com/2026/css-cus...

As a follow up to the @localfirstconf.com we are doing a unofficial local-first meetup in Cologne on the 15th of October. Maybe this can be a regular event where we can exchange knowledge? The two talks are to get the conversations started. If you are interested in joining, feel free to contact me.

It’s a bit of an open secret that a group of us is working on forming an Atmosphere Community Co-op (which we’ll share more about publicly soon!) @roguewave.design created an open collection on @semble.so called Co-operatives. Please do share resources there.

Folded this little Hollyhock flower (design by Meenakshi Mukerji, Wondrous One Sheet Origami). It's pretty easy to do, and I like the subtle popup effect. I followed this tutorial: youtu.be/-NECK0ZYJ4c

My talk at @localfirstconf.com is up, in which I argue that local-first has a role to play in improving the resilience of democratic societies in an era of geopolitical tensions. I'm pretty happy with how this talk turned out www.youtube.com/watch?v=--Ru...

Talk recordings from day 1 & 2 are live! www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

I was so happy for the opportunity to present my research yesterday at the @localfirstconf.com Lab Day! Slides are up already, video recording coming soon: jonas-schuermann.name/talks/2026-l...

@localfirstconf.com was a blast! Met so many kind and talented people. Thank you for the great discussions, I enjoyed all of your company. Thanks to the great orga team as well. Until next year!
