BC election data shows 52% of voters stayed home. Global data shows all things being equal proportional elections have higher turnout than systems built solely on single-winner-ridings, because proportional representation means everyone feels they have a voice.

And Postmedia is American owned. Are we reading an American or Canadian perspective in one of Canada's largest newspaper chains?

Doug Ford lighting traffic-snarling bonfires of your money and throwing the odd body on in the hopes of keeping his base warm.

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk, and there is no network of side streets that could replace these lanes."

This first past the post result emphasizes a need for electoral reform in Canada. In a proportional system a 28% mandate means 28% representation in the house. In the end, 72% of Quebec voters didn't want this.

Time for electoral reform? It looks like less than 1/3 of the popular vote might have elected a majority government. "For the first time in Quebec history, the PQ is projected to form the government with less than 30 per cent of the popular vote." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Zelensky’s visit to Toronto / Canada last week was even more risky considering our proximity to a Russian vassal state.

Look at this photo we found from Donald Trump Jr.’s lavish Bahamas wedding. Can you spot the Russian oligarch close to Putin who bankrolled the event? 🧵

Any idea what Sutcliffe might have to do with the bus and LRT train procurement years ago? You wonder if he has a Watson 2.0 in the works to rush the East Extension before an election?

mark-sutcliffe.bsky.social@mark-sutcliffe.bsky.social

I’ve made transit a priority by increasing investment, purchasing 500 new buses, and successfully launching Lines 2 and 4. With the start of pre-trial running in early October, we're now taking the next steps on the East Extension. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Is this where uploading local transit may be going?

TTCriders@ttcriders.bsky.social

Just as the school year begins, GO Train service is being cut. One fully-loaded GO Train can take up to 2,000 cars off the road. Doug Ford is allowing train service cuts while throwing money at new highways & bike lane removals, worsening traffic congestion. Details + how to take action!⬇️

We might have the AfD in an Ontario with a first past the post election, and all we got was Doug Ford.

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

Here’s where the vote tally stands at 8:45 PM local time Most results are from rural areas and urban areas haven’t reported yet, but the AfD is posting numbers that would result in a majority government in Canada’s first-past-the-post system (Germany uses mixed-member proportional representation)

Perhaps Metrolinx should be using a Canadian based server? My understanding is that US maps say America, and in Canada it is Ontario. Does Doug know?

John Bowker@johnbowker.bsky.social

Metrolinx’s station locator map currently points to “Lake America,” despite Doug Ford’s big sign www.gotransit.com/en/find-a-st... #onpoli

Thomson Reuters, which owns news agency Reuters, has signed a $125M deal giving ICE access to its databases of personal data. USA Today has partnered with Palantir to gain "actionable intelligence" on its audiences. The media should be opponents of Trump's police state — not collaborators.
