Right. I'm on a nightbus home. So the law is i have to tell y'all a story. So let me tell you about the time i ended up drinking with Ray Harryhausen's right-hand animator. Who we were incorrectly convinced was full of so much shit

It must be deeply annoying having your livelihood stolen and copied by thieves... 🤨

OpenAI said on Tuesday that it had discovered a hidden recording device in one of its offices and traced it to an employee, and that the FBI had arrested the worker.

Taxing the rich works and every scare story is a lie.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Forgive me for feeling emotional seeing stuff like this. As soon as I'd finished this book my ex-publisher collapsed, took my earnings and I had no idea whether it would even come out. I got the impression everyone who read it before it was published hated it. All I knew was I felt it was my best...

My teacher brother has just informed me that his primary school kids now refer to anything shit or old fashioned as "Brexit". Which has made my morning.

Andy Burnham announces end of triple-lock on the state pension from 2030. It will be replaced by double-lock, slower growth in state pension. Full state pension is already less than 50%of the minimum wage. Poverty awaits future retirees. £500bn of taxes not collected by HMRC since 2010.

"Its the wrong place to get money from.. there are other places.. the richest 50 families are worth £500bn. Why are we talking about pensioners £12,500 & not talking about a wealth tax. Why is that?" @unitesharon.bsky.social says scrapping the triple lock would be the wrong thing to do

It always feels absurdly grown-up, buying a rail season ticket when I have actual regular work. You know, like I'm some sort of normal person. As opposed to the 66-year-old child I actually am.

Ooh not seen that before. A big ol’ rearranging of who sits where on the plane, because you can’t have a child sitting in the emergency exit seat. Very polite, but clear that we were milliseconds from a grumpy “well I don’t see why” conversation 🤣

This is genuinely fascinating.

Composer and conductor Matthew Aucoin on the mysteries of orchestral conducting. A terrific, uncondescending explainer of a role that remains misunderstood.

Wrote a line in my diary about making the most of a thing I'd dreamt about. However, as a non-touch typist, I wasn't looking at the screen, and didn't spot the capslock was on. I actually typed, "I SHOULD CAPITALISE ON THIS" At 6:30, before adequate coffee, this seems the funniest thing ever.

Filled in the consultation questionnaire about HMRC's latest proposals for further increasing the regularity of tax returns (including *forecasting* one's self-employed income, FFS). Reader, I was very sarcastic.

Small pleasures. This was a cutting I took from my Mum's oleander... which was in turn, a cutting from her sister's oleander, which was a cutting from one they had in their garden in Lewisham when they were kids. No idea where that one came from. It smells like Play-Doh 🥰

Ok, I know I'm a bit peculiar, but I'll admit that I get a teeny frisson, a bit like holiday excitement, from watching the little yellow aeroplanes arriving at and departing from a foreign airport on FlightRadar. #probablythesunshine #weirdoldpillock
