Our constitution (yes not written I know) is literally founded on the principle that no parliament can bind its successors.
“The perception that promises can subsequently be revisited by a political establishment removed from the realities of working communities has left lasting scars”, writes Labour MP @melanieonnmp.bsky.social 🗣️ EU free movement debate risks undermining voter trust www.politics.co.uk/2026/10/mela...

I don’t think we adequately remember the audacity of hope embodied by this man in his character of Chekov: at the height of the Cold War, a popular TV show said; one day this bit of politics will be over and we’ll be friends. Rest in Peace sir.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
Splendid evening in the company of this glorious silliness from @mitchbenn.bsky.social - it deserves a long life (possibly post-mortem) life!
And @mitchbenn.bsky.social do drop me a DM if you want some suggestions.
In my lifetime (just): the Equal Pay Act; Gay Marriage; treatment for HIV; eradication (for now) of many serious childhood diseases, seatbelt laws, elimination of smoking in restaurants and cafes.
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Good gig tonight in Malvern @jkaconductor.bsky.social conducting 20th century English works, some well known, some less so. For me the Warlock take on John Dowland was of particular note. John Andrews certainly knows how to get the best out of a band, in this case the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

6 generations = 64 great, great, great great grandparents. How many need to be English? (Note: I have no clue in my own case)
Rees-Mogg rejects Braverman Rules as ridiculous on both principle and indeed self-protection! Though Braverman did lower the bar last week from 5-6 generations to 3 (and looking like you have a few generations) so she has probably readmitted him now www.dailymail.com/news/article...
