Quick update on the wind-down work on Jazzband since last week: pip-tools has moved to PyPA, wagtailmenus to Wagtail Nest, and sorl-thumbnail back to Mario-César Señoranis. #python #django

I've kicked off the wind-down work on Jazzband and have sent out emails to most project leads and people involved. In case there is a Jazzband project you care about, please check out the dedicated project board and engage: github.com/orgs/jazzban... #python #django #django-commons #pypa

Of the 82 projects I'm tracking, 11 are marked as complete, 4 as archived, and 11 are preparing to move. More moves are under discussion, including proposals for Django Commons (27 projects are currently in the preparation or decision phase). Thanks to everyone helping! #python #django

Good news, everyone! We've extended the deadline for the Packaging Summit at EuroPython 2026 by a week to July 6 (was June 29). Still time to join us! programme.europython.eu/europ... Request to attend (required): forms.gle/cNZU3NnbeFY1aiqw6 Propose a topic: forms.gle/GCBvWQW25QxKJLZu5

programme.europython.euPackaging Summit EuroPython 2026## Important links: - Request to attend (required): _https://forms.gle/cNZU3NnbeFY1aiqw6_ - Propose a topic (optional): _https://forms.gle/GCBvWQW25QxKJLZu5_ - Summary Notes: [2026 (this year)](https://hackmd.io/@jezdez/europython2026-packaging-summit), [2025 (previous year)](https://hackmd.io/@jezdez/europython2025-packaging-summit) ## About the Packaging Summit Co-Chairs: Pradyun Gedam and Jannis Leidel Following the great success of the Packaging Summit at PyCon US we're looking to bring the same event again to EuroPython. Python packaging is a rapidly changing (and hopefully improving) landscape, historically and currently plagued by many problems. Solving these problems requires a high degree of coordination between various stakeholders; to name a few: - Creators of packaging tools (e.g., Setuptools, pip, conda, Poetry, uv) - Maintainers of Python libraries - Developers of Python applications - Distributors of downstream packages (e.g., Fedora, Debian) - Consumers of Python packages (e.g., end-users, corporate developers) The goal of this summit is to try to take advantage of the fact that, at EuroPython we can get a high concentration of these stakeholders in one room at the same time. This allows us to sync up on current and future best practices and to quickly come to agreements that would take months or even years over higher-latency media of discussion (e.g., mailing lists, forums, issue tickets). ## Request to attend Are you involved in Python packaging in some capacity, have a unique perspective to share, and ready to participate in intense discussions helping continue to hash out the present and future of Python packaging? If so, you're a great candidate to attend! > Go here to request to attend: https://forms.gle/cNZU3NnbeFY1aiqw6 _The registration will close on [Monday, July 6, 2026, AoE](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=EuroPython+2026+-+Python+Packaging+Summit+Attendance+Request+Deadline&iso=20260706T2359&p1=3399) (was [Monday, June 29, 2026, AoE](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=EuroPython+2026+-+Python+Packaging+Summit+Attendance+Request+Deadline&iso=20260629T2359&p1=3399)), and selected attendees will be notified by email._ We will be evaluating all requests on a rolling basis, and aim to confirm your attendance by July 4. Stragglers submitting by July 6 will be informed on an ongoing basis. ## Propose a topic Do you have a particular topic in mind you want to share or discuss? Great! pyfound.blogspot.comPSF Strategic Plan 2026 Draft: Open for Community FeedbackIn May, we shared the high-level goals of the Python Software Foundation's (PSF) strategic plan and asked for your commentary. Today we are publishing the full draft and opening a three-week community feedback window.

Reminder: the PSF strategic plan draft is open for feedback until June 25. We've been working on this for over a year, and I'd like to hear what people think before the board adopts it. pyfound.blogspot.com/2026/06/psf-strategic-plan-2026-draft-open-for.html

I've been doing Python infrastructure work for 15 years (Django, pip, virtualenv, PyPA, Jazzband, conda, and now PSF board chair), and this plan covers where the foundation invests its time and resources for the next five.

If Python matters to you, please take a look and let us know what's missing. The plan includes annual reviews, so there will be more chances to weigh in, but this is the most direct one. Feedback: strategy@python.org Next office hour: June 23, 1 PM UTC, PSF Discord.
