Heya Bluesky! ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐ŸŽฒ I'm JC! I'm a freelance creative in the #boardgames industry looking to fill up my fall/winter season this year with cool projects! Hit me up! Check out my latest sizzle reel with the sick custom track I made ๐Ÿ”Š

Just stumbled across this again, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the photos I took for them at GenCon this year are the ones they're using for their KS page! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’™

Look, I'm not going to say anyone's incorrect here, but like... Y'all can see all the clips are from different days, yeah? And that this is a free booted, clickbaity title? And that it's tightly edited to play only what the family says out of context? ...Screw it. Thread. Pray for me.

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

All without trying to come across as defending questionable positions that I clearly don't have. Please make your own conclusions. Research. Vote. All that crap. And God someone get that kid a scholarship already. If there's one takeaway, that kid could beat ME in soccer. Granted, not a high bar.

And I swear to god if I get one quote post or reply of someone giving a "so you hate waffles" type response... Just re-read the part where I agree with you on this, and realize how this whole post isn't even really about the clickbait thing you're mad about in the first place.

Look, I'm not going to say anyone's incorrect here, but like... Y'all can see all the clips are from different days, yeah? And that this is a free booted, clickbaity title? And that it's tightly edited to play only what the family says out of context? ...Screw it. Thread. Pray for me.

And just to make ABSOLUTELY clear: *****I also think there was racism at play here.****** But one of us came to that conclusion after doing the research and digging for context. I9 likely weren't justified in how they escalated. And I don't know *for sure* and I ACTUALLY did the legwork here.

So hopefully that helps illustrate my frustration with this. No one is questioning anything, everyone's just mad, and I'm up until 3AM watching videos from a stupid clip farm of a 3 year old I don't care about playing soccer and writing and rewriting posts to try and actually do some good with it.

Look, I'm not going to say anyone's incorrect here, but like... Y'all can see all the clips are from different days, yeah? And that this is a free booted, clickbaity title? And that it's tightly edited to play only what the family says out of context? ...Screw it. Thread. Pray for me.

You can also see the second cop trying to smile at the kid that's been brought over, looking wildly uncomfortable that the dad, who isn't even talking to them, is inviting over and filming his kid while loudly talking about how "they" called the cops on a 3yo.

The kid is clearly never intentionally addressed by the cops. The dad *brought the kid over to the cops to film him to edit together after the fact.* Thousands of replies to these posts and the like four who dared to even question it got lambasted for pointing obvious things out.

And y'all... Grow up. They so obviously did not call the cops ON THE 3 YEAR OLD KID for being GOOD AT SOCCER in the MIDDLE of a public park club game. Stop. Stop. Look at the video. Watch it again. Pause on it. Actually comprehend the things you're shown before commenting.

No teams are playing. There's no cheering crowd noises. People are literally packing up in the background with the actual clips with the cops. And again... the CLIPS ARE ALL FROM DIFFERENT DAYS... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Maybe, JUST MAYBE, the narrative presented in the highly edited TikTok video isn't 100% factual.

You can't blame the other parents for talking amongst themselves about what their options are because the constantly filming family across the field, who refuse to be near them at their own admission, brought the heat to the paid peewee "learn motor skills and try things" league.

So like... Regardless of the cops being called or not, the parents shouldn't have brought their child there, and it sounds like it was months of bringing their child to film at a for-fun league who's stated goals are the opposite of what that family showed up to do.

Look, I'm not going to say anyone's incorrect here, but like... Y'all can see all the clips are from different days, yeah? And that this is a free booted, clickbaity title? And that it's tightly edited to play only what the family says out of context? ...Screw it. Thread. Pray for me.

And the thing is... I think the dad knows it. He's said in replies on his posts that his son scores anywhere from 10 to *40(!?)* points over the other team. All while filming and livestreaming it. And yeah, if this was a serious league for that kind of competition, then I'd be all for it.

But this is I9's peewee league about basic sport/teamwork/motor skills education, something I found out through I9's website, something literally no one else bothered to look at. I have a hunch this superstar was causing some problems behind the scenes for kids expecting a different experience.

Based on the super brief clips we got shown, they still let the kid play for the majority of the game, they tried giving him coaching, they tried putting him in older groups, they tried adjusting team age balances, and clearly nothing worked. The kid is crazy good and deserves a more serious league.

Consider the parents behind the acct. You can watch them farm this kid for content. There's thousands of YouTube shorts on this kid. Not wholesome, family stuff, but highly edited, clickbaity stuff. It's gross to put your kid on display like that. It's beyond just a "proud parent" at this point.

And there's none, other than the beginning clips of this video are weeks to months old, the dad in the comments says their kid has been doing this for months, to even a greater degree than what we're shown, and he briefly shows the league trying to adapt to his standout kid as best as they can.

Speaking of, I also looked into I9 and their whole schtick is kids just having fun while exposing them to new sports at a young age. They even made that mission statement clear in a post a month ago that they've since had to add a pinned comment because of all the hate being piled on them right now.

The amount of unjustified and unsubstantiated yet probably right vitriol thrown around triggered the hell out of the justice part of my autism I can't control. I went through EVERY post from the parents of the kid (nevadaney10 on insta) to find more context- *any* context directly from them.

More work on textures for my videos and renders. This time trying to get more realistic looking cardboard token sides. Still probably a few more small touches I could add. #boardgames #blender #blender3D Token art from @emilykeepskitties.bsky.social's board game Good Kitties. Link in the replies!

Y'know, something like this makes me love human-made even art more. Because something a robot would *never* have thought to replicate was the way the top line blurs out because they were too short to spray head-on. You go, short graffiti king.

I know itโ€™s sorta cheesy but someone posted this from Paris on Reddit and I felt this immediate rush of hope

To the people who are still hesitantly fans of Harry Potter... Might I genuinely, kindly, and without any internet-inherent sense of snark, suggest writing your own stories? For real, I used to be a huuuuuuge fan of ol' HP, but now that I've written my own worlds and stories? It's way better.

That's why I suggest writing your own stories of magic people doing magic things. You'll discover on your own the things you really wanted out of HP that it actually never gave you. I discovered I wanted better LGBT representation and a deeper magic system in a wider, higher fantasy world.

I won't deny that there's this sort of sense of loss I have at this thing I used to hold really close to me, to the point where I had made it a part of my personality. But now? I have these stories I'm writing that I love far more than HP. So give it a shot, the magic to do it is in you, I promise.

Like, HP was never perfect, far from it in fact. There's plenty of analysis videos on YouTube that you can find that'll give you endless reasons why. But I get that those stories still had meaning to you, and you got lost in that world for years of your life. So I understand it's hard to let go.

Yo! I'm doing a thing! Let's raise some money!

When your board game can cheer for itself! (Having a blast at Essen.)

I know I should have health insurance, but like... I'm seeing people say they pay like *$500* a month!? In this economy? I've got one psych appointment every three months that's ~$200 out of pocket, and meds that are ~$130 for three months worth. That's roughly $110 a month.

I have never seen health insurance that costs less than that which would actually cover those costs, and while I do know I could go to an actual doctor every once in a while, I get my blood work done for free as part of my regular STD checks, and otherwise all doctors tell me is that I'm fine.

I get that I could get cancer or what have you, but good lord based on some of these prices, I'd be dead from the financial stress alone, something I'm *already* struggling with. Health insurance is such a scam. Just another reason to get a sugar daddy, I suppose. Benefits.

I had the honor of working on the video for these games! Go check out the KS now!

I'm so excited to announce that we just launched Good Kitties and Super Chonk on Kickstarter! Thanks to all the people who've supported me or these games over the past 4 years! Now LET'S GOOOOOOOO ๐Ÿ˜ป www.kickstarter.com/projects/pin...

Hello all, this year's Midnight Market is almost upon us. On November 27-29, we'll be selling limited, hand-assembled indie games designed by Chris Lawrence, Marceline Leiman, Zach Sockol, Jaela Horton, and Eric Dittmore. Be sure to "market" on your calendar. The Night is for Indie Games. ๐ŸŒ™

(I'm probably going to lose, I'm doing terrible this round and I'm a disgrace to my legacy)

Like seriously, I've won tournaments. I work for the company who made it. I should never lose lol (I lost by 6 points, I did SO bad)

The algorithmโ„ข thinks I like a particular board game on Kickstarter because I went to their page and spent a long time on it. I actually was just trying to figure out how they did their textures for their board game component renders ๐Ÿ˜…

Oh, and also the game is cool lol I should lead with that next time.

It's in my best interest to not share this, like, financially, but dang do I have major respect for his work that it'd be wrong for me not to.

So, I need a job. Iโ€™ve done a lot of work in my 40 years. Iโ€™ve operated, Iโ€™ve managed, Iโ€™ve client supported. Iโ€™ve prototyped, playtested, and photographed. Iโ€™ve drummed and even made a couple of kids. Kept them alive.

Was just thinking about this. A little while ago I had a client who sent me emails that, to me at least, were clearly AI written in some way. As the projects gone along, they've become much shorter and worse, now clearly human, and I'm so glad. They're so much easier and more enjoyable to read now.

JC@jcw.gay

I have very little illustrative talent when it comes to quickly drawing people. I also hate rough drafts. These "highly professional animatics" as I call them are absolutely adored by my clients because there's something so human and relatable about low-effort placeholder art.

This was such a fun video go work on! And while I love the animation work I did, I'm also actually kind of proud of my voice acting performance in it ๐Ÿ˜… Go give Rune Rite some love!
