Had a great time repping the Harrisburg Board Game Alliance at the Stuff to Do Fair. Talked about our events, other game meet ups, what modern hobby games are, local designers, and played a round of Color Jam. So many people!

Daniel had a chance to check out an advance version of Color Jam courtesy of @lunarpunk.games, live now on Kickstarter. It elevates the art form to explore a spectrum of improvised creativity and surprisingly strategic puzzling, allowing the player to find their own sense of satisfaction and victory

Color Jam (I got a review copy from @lunarpunk.games) is live on Kickstarter now and I got some glitter markers for my kids bday party so I decided to try a page with those markers! Some were already running out (after being used by kids) but they were really pretty when they worked well!

First rainy night of fall so cozied up with some solo Color Jam and a bowl of cheezies. It's surprisingly tricky to play strategically and you soon find yourself having to improvise and stretch reality to fill the gap both colorfully and narratively.

Jamming with color @lunarpunk.games My daughter and I burned through all the pages for Color It so it's perfect timing for a new coloring challenge.

Life is a lot of different things. It's beautiful, tough, challenging, wholesome, stressful, peaceful, thoughtful, magical, mundane, absurd, chaotic, familiar, strange, and everything in between. We hope you're finding joy where you can. Never forget, you are incredible. Thanks for being you.

If you look back at how we used the word "game" historically, it wasn't until recently that the definition narrowed to hierarchical win/lose conditions. In fact, outside the hobby it's still common to use "game" as a playful activity. (Many song lyrics still use the term that way.)

Games can be games without a hierarchical result. We must broaden traditional definitions of tabletop games to give designers the agency and opportunity to express themselves in new, exciting, and challenging ways. We should be creating new ways to explore artistic mediums, not shutting them down.

Love this!!!

Color Jam (review copy from @lunarpunk.games ) is way more of a hit than I expected it to be! I played it with my 6yo kid the other day and today he wanted to play it with my husband and is teaching him! He hasn’t been enjoying many typical board games recently so this is the perfect game for him!

I know we've been sharing a lot of Color Jam stuff recently, but it always brings us back to an exciting question for other designs which is: "What are players creating through play?" It's not always a tangible thing like a picture. Sometimes it's a conversation, feeling, or a special memory.

Too interested to wait, I wrote some numbers haphazardly on one of my kids’ colouring sheets and tried a samizdat game of @lunarpunk.games’s Color Jam. Even playing my unofficial version, I found it thought provoking. (Mini 🧵)

Turns out Color Jam is good for travel too! I brought some midliners and just played a solo game in the hotel. It’s fun and relaxing to just color stuff in, and it’s neat going for mini goals (like trying to get a rainbow thing going in the waterfall area)! @lunarpunk.games

I got the chance to try Color Jam for a bit and genuinely, I think it should be getting way more attention. It has the potential to open the doors of hobby board games to so, so many more people.

Today I discuss three paper games: one about origami, another with coins, and a third that's all about coloring by numbers. Read about them here: spacebiff.com/2026/07/24/o...

We love this! What a great result, too. Collaborative play is our jam. 😎

I got a PnP review copy of Color Jam from @lunarpunk.games and tried it out today. Started solo but then one of my kids came and wanted to help me color, and by the end he was helping me choose the colors based on the numbers! We managed to get the picture almost how we wanted!

We get asked a lot, what does Lunarpunk Games stand for? Well, it's simple: Listen, Unranked Nomenclature Around Rigorous Playtesting Utilizes Nuanced Kindness, Giving All More Ephemeral Spectacle. jk I made that up just now sorrryyyyyy

Narrative outcomes are one of our favorite ways to explore game end states. Win/Lose makes sense for some things, but the games we play are ultimately the stories we write, solo or together. It can be pretty cool and impactful to see how your story ends based on the choices you made through play.

Narrative outcomes may also provide incentives for players to explore different things in pursuit of a desired outcome, or lead to varying interpretations of an outcome which can lead to fun discussion. Consider exploring these in your next game design!

One of our favorite things about Color Jam is seeing how people build a story around their coloring choices. Due to the game's puzzle, we stylized some spaces to be interpreted in different ways. In the photos below, the spaces in the middle right either be a hot air balloon or a part of a cactus!

You may not always be able to color every space *exactly* the way you want to. Some players may chop this up as a mistake they made in the game, but you also have a lot of fun opportunities to recontextualize your choices and change the story of what's happening in the picture.

Color Jam is designed by Gene Koo (@stickydoodler.bsky.social) and Joe Kell, with art by Erin Laue. We've loved seeing how players color in each picture in wonderfully different ways, navigating the puzzle of the game + a limited palette of 6 colors with surprising choices to craft a unique story.
