As a response to the GOP's Dans Sullivans protest in Alaska, 'even if Dems were behind this, the GOP has always done this sort of thing' is weak. Both parties do it. What's wrong is that the GOP is trying to break the established principle—rule, effectively—that this sort of scheme is within bounds.

You're never going to totally escape the fact that an election is a process, it's detailed, there are rules. What you have to press for is that the rules are settled in advance and then we play out the election by the rules established at the time and we respect the outcome that happens at the time.
The House Speaker decides if the next Congress can be seated, whoever certifies an election decides who the winner of the election is, and the Supreme Court can overrule anything at any time, so long as the winner of the 2016 presidential election agrees. This is basic stuff, U.S. Constitution 101.
this is total gobbledygook? the process to decide who should be certified as the winner is the election, and there is no federal law that says the courts get to decide who that is.

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.

People who think this way never seem to ask themselves how much they believe that election outcomes *this year* are being affected by percentage-point margins of races that happened in *2024*—that people today are remembering, caring about, and making decisions based on what the margins were in 2024
Is that plausible? Only if you think you've acted differently over the last two years because some race in 2024 was close or less close. I submit that you probably have not. I submit that, say, Elon Musk is not to any meaningful extent basing his spending decisions right now on what happened in 2024
There are two kinds of lane changers in Austin, the one that doesn't signal and you don't even know they want to change lanes until they gun it to convey they're pissed at you, and the one that signals like they want to change lanes yet remains in their lane alongside you matching your speed exactly
'Simplistic syllogisms with little connection to empirical reality' are kind of OK if they are indeed based on 'banal truisms.' They might rise to the level of moral edification. Unfortunately, if you aren't able to do more than simplistic syllogisms, it's tough to figure out what's a banal truism.
Where the mass audience-facing public sphere is skewed towards sensationalism, org-seated libertarians were skewed towards banal truisms, simplistic syllogisms with little connection to empirical reality, and many far less clean and more unhinged assumptions smuggled in.

Libertarianism as an intellectual project, especially by the years that fusionism was on its last legs, was just a very insular set of groups all talking mainly with one another, living in a structure artificially propped up by big big money. It lacked the discipline of a larger audience.

"You cannot criminally charge Musk for investing in Skydance. But he has committed many, many crimes. Quite frankly, he should be target number one for congressional investigations and a 2029 DOJ prosecution. He is the perfect confluence of guilt, importance, and unpopularity."

He's so obviously sweating right now. A Democratic House investigating him is bad, a fully Democratic Congress is much worse. He also knows the better Talarico does, the more likely Hinojosa and Democrats downballot do. A Democratic Texas Governor can make his life utter hell
I'm unsure that we should continue to refer to companies like Meta as 'tech' companies when their technology is old and unremarkable. What we can't stand about them is what their actual current business is, which is taking advantage of their long-ago established position to squeeze our attention.

Hey @apnews.com tomorrow can you ask Donald Trump if he agrees with his friend Elon Musk that a Great Replacement has already occurred

Don't let anything stop you from voting. I lack the time to rewrite this piece for 2026 but the math isn't going to be different: voting is a prosocial activity. However you measure it, casting one good vote pays off for society. And since you're On Here I feel confident it's a good vote you'll cast

I will not link to the article but it is uncut stenography. Quotes a White House spokesperson shilling for this ludicrous plan. Nothing from Democrats or any hint that any of it might not be on the up-and-up. It's 2026, @apnews.com. This is Donald Trump here. What are you doing?
We should elect @ginafortexas.bsky.social.
Today we launch the first episode of my podcast. I interviewed Whitney Mitchell, whose fiancé and caretaker Garrett Foster was murdered at a BLM protest in 2020. Foster's killer was convicted by a jury and given a 25-year sentence. Then Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pardoned him.

If you don’t think your basic rights should depend upon whether Sam Alito can imagine a single drunk in the 1700s wanting to take them away, you should get on board with Supreme Court expansion ASAP.
