America's Highway Trust Fund spends far more than it brings in in gas and truck taxes, and the US constantly bails the fund out from the federal general fund and by taking out loans. The Bay Area will pay ~$1.3B/year to bail out the fund yet again, starting in 2028. From @maxmautner.com.

if you are considering reading discworld, please, do it in release order. the world itself is an evolving character and if you read the series by “main storylines” you’re going to lose out on some really interesting worldbuilding, since the release order is basically chronological order

an exception to the rule of the books being chronological in release order is small gods, which covers the development of the only monotheistic belief that has a foothold in modern ankh-morpork, and if you skip over it you’re gonna be a bit baffled when a character shows up acting like a mormon

so if you go with most people’s recommendation of just going for the guards books, Visit-The-Infidel-With-Explanatory-Pamphlets is gonna show up with *religious background context that you’re missing out on* because you skipped a whole book where pratchett explained it!

to clarify my first post: between the first and last books there are massive tech advancements and sociopolitical shifts. cultures grow and change and mesh together. side characters pop in and out based on where they belong in the world, not based on the main character they’re associated with.

when I was in high school I only learned about nonbinary identity through an obscure webcomic and now 15 years later I can put they/he pronouns in a work email and no one says shit about it

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

nonbinary identity was not a valid option when I was a kid and nowadays if I am the first nb person someone meets they ask good questions about etiquette instead of trying to kill or ostracize me

being openly trans in the 2000s was not really an option, the culture in the US was that you had to be stealth or you’d be treated like a monster or a curiosity. I know it’s still like that in a lot of places, but things have fundamentally changed in the last 20 years for us

there is a blanket in it. it is one of the two blankets that came with parsley when we adopted her from the shelter when she was a tiny little kitten

the other blanket is in a wicker basket that she sleeps in. this wicker basket is what my partner used for a gift basket for my birthday the first year we were together, which was back in 2016. parp is a very sentimental creature

me playing undertale for the first time: wow I can’t stand this alphys character, I hope this segment is short

I think that if the city wanted to reduce costs and reduce human suffering then they would be interpreting the years of semi-permanent campsites along 122nd, powell, etc as a sign that the shelter provided is inadequate and invest in making those shelters better, but what do I know

finally got @tkingfisher.com ‘s daggerbound through libby and on page 1 I immediately get hit in the face with the brick of recognition that this is a simultaneous sequel to swordheart AND the clocktaur duology. hell yes

I’ve been following kingfisher since she was partway through writing digger and although I do not read romantasy as a rule I will go out of my way to read this conglomeration of stories within this universe because I am compelled by the magical and political details going on

I think one of my favorite things about living here is that when you go on a walk you will see things like this and also tags like “shrimps is bugs” and “PENISGIRL”

I keep thinking about this video and how close this person came to knocking out a bridge

Cabel Sasser@cabel.panic.com

i have lived here my whole life, and i have never once seen a plane take off from the Willamette… …let alone do THIS. wtf.

portland does not have rebuild-a-bridge money, it doesn’t even have the money to fix the bridges we already have

I have a little studio apartment and like a third of one of the walls is a window and fennel looks soooo tiny in it, I want to share but I would be doxxing the hell out of myself if I did, so you’re just gonna have to trust me

Everything made it through the bisque firing! It’s now chilling up at the wood kiln, waiting for tomorrow’s loading. (The pots and the long legged bud on are on other table)

the animation bloopers section of the shrek dvd genuinely scared the hell out of me as a small child

eyyy it’s the thing I was ranting about yesterday! I wish their polls went back through 2000 because this doesn’t track how aggressively anti-socialist the early 2000s were

"Most of the increase in socialism’s positive rating through 2025 reflected increasingly positive views among Democrats, rising from 50% in 2010 to 66% last year. The latest uptick, however, comes entirely from political independents."
