Everyone’s always saying “Jared, I simply don’t have enough podcasts to listen to.” Well, fret no more. Here’s a great hour of Every Frame Counts talk with Matt Feury on The Rough Cut! #PostChat #PostSky
Some bonus tips that got trimmed from the book ended up being put to good use in this highlight on Randi Altman's postPerspective:
Whoa! Jack Brown aka “The Avid Assistant” on YouTube reviewed my book, Every Frame Counts. He talks about what the book is, and just as importantly, what the book is *not*. If you’re on the fence, check out his review! #PostChat #PostSky
A free downloadable dailies checklist?? Wow. Click below. s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/s3-euw1-ap-p... Every Frame Counts is available now, anywhere books are sold! #PostChat #PostSky
Unfortunately “Every Frame Counts” does *not* cover codecs like 1.2 Yums, Tizz 5D, or Horngut 222… apologies, @alanresnick.bsky.social. Other codecs and naming conventions are outlined in the Turnovers chapter though. Here’s a screenshot of how I organize my DNxHR SQ media onto Nexis workspaces.
In all seriousness, David Kong’s video from (gasp!) nearly a decade ago is still my go-to recommendation for those wanting to learn about codecs and containers.
Frame.io has a great blog post breaking codecs down, too. Knowing how computers are processing video files helps you to troubleshoot more effectively. #PostChat #PostSky It also allows you to laugh watching those videos I posted earlier in this thread because you’re like “no he’s right tho”

Comedy is so important to me, and I cherish my short stint at UCB. I honestly I think Alan made this video for me and me alone, and everyone else is just allowed to watch it: #PostChat #PostSky
I mean, 10/10 concept and execution. @alanresnick.bsky.social please do my audiobook? jaredasimon.com/every-frame-... #PostChat #PostSky
It’s with this exact energy that I wrote the book, btw. #PostChat #PostSky
Every editor has their own preferences, but creating little “Post-It”-style notes helps communicate more visually. Link below for more info about the book before it comes out!

I talk a lot about @avidmediacomposer.bsky.social but it's a mix of technical and holistic tips, tricks and notes. Not a definitive guide, more so insight into the mind and workflow of a First Assistant Editor in a scripted environment.
I hope it's a worthy contribution to the community @dr0id.bsky.social and @coreyfrost.bsky.social have fostered here on social media—I don't post much and I'm not great at marketing (I'm an Assistant Editor, after all, not some PR genius).
You are up to date.
