I don’t know who needs to know this, but if you’re looking for a charming, well-produced podcast containing human stories from New York City (but that could just as easily be from anywhere) then you need this one in your life. Both episodes are just great. podnews.net/podcast/i123zy
Well, this is a thing. Overnight in the UK, the BBC World Service will come... from Sydney. Goodness. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/bb...
On the @podnews.net Weekly Review this week - out on Friday - none other than the co-inventor of podcasting himself, Adam Curry. Find us wherever you get your podcasts.
This will be my last travel update of the year, assuming I don't do one for Sydney next week, which I won't. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/tr...

Super loud slow hand clap for Apple. No longer doing country-specific curation for podcasts. Wonder why? Have they been told to do this? Or is this the latest example of a once pretty good company becoming like Microsoft, ie. sh*t. If you podcast, follow @podnews.net podnews.net/update/apple...

This is very cool. @play.date now has a radio app, so you can use it to listen to the radio. You can't tune it to anything specific, so it's just a tune up and down the dial to find a station you think you might like: probably the right way to think about it anyway
Imagine the worst media regulator in the world. Then imagine worse than that. You've got the CRTC: the only media regulator actively harming the thing it regulates. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/ca...
Nobody asked for this. But, should you want a trip report of mine to New York - includes pictures - then here we are. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/tr...

In the UK, free to air television might be turned off. But what does that mean to radio? It’s bad news, says Radiocentre. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/in...

Enjoyed my Friday gym session yesterday while listening to @james.crid.land talking all things Australian radio. Go check out the Quarter Hour if you haven't already. A must listen for radio people :) www.youtube.com/channel/UCI1...
Nobody wants to read an overly-detailed review of a solar system with a battery, and how I'm using it with my very specific electricity plan to save money on my bills. If you're nobody, then today is your lucky day. james.cridland.net/blog/2026/so... #solar #sungrow
So if you’ve ever wondered what a “play” really is for a podcast, here’s a tediously exhaustive article all about that. podnews.net/article/what...

Spotify: unskippable ads for them, skipped ads for us?: We got a lawyer to check the terms
Good grief. Even now, more than 25 years since I was on the radio, I'm still worrying about whether I'm allowed to mention some of the candidates of the Clacton by-election in any way on polling day. Those Ofcom rules never leave you. Thankfully, they don't cover @podnews.net . Phew.
Wore my @countbinface.osintnet.uk t-shirt to the coffee shop this morning, in Brisbane, Australia. Promptly forgot I was wearing it. Someone came up to me and wished me good luck. “Why?” I asked. “Oh,” I said, looking down at my t-shirt. Binface supporters are everywhere.

EXCLUSIVE: Spotify threatens podcasting with ad-skipping tool: The tool is already testing in the US, and skips premium memberships too
The typesetting on this. The bad linebreaks. The full justification. The mix of CAPITALS and ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ and 𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖘 𝖓𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖊𝖓𝖘𝖊. The King refers himself as "we". There's a double-space before the weirdly-emboldened 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗻. No, no, no. None of this is good. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Podcasting is a weirdly unique industry. Everything we want to grow the industry comes from the podcast app. Better metrics and better consumption all starts in a podcast app. Yet, the podcast app earns nothing from the industry. That has to change. podnews.net/article/podc...
