NO OFFENSE: A MEMOIR IN ESSAYS is now available for preorder! It’s about all the uncomfortable questions, conversations, and assumptions I’ve faced re: queerness and gender. But it’s also about love and representation and the awkwardness of growing up. elj-editions.com/no-offense-a....

AWP was chaotic and wonderful as usual. Happy to connect with so many new writing folks and catch up with friends. Also very pleased with my haul this year - can’t wait to dig in!

Also…our offsite reading is an easy 10 min walk from the convention center AND raises money for trans youth. Just sayin’.

If you’re going to #AWP26 and you want to support trans youth and you also love free drinks, save the date!

Spent last week at Sunlit Residency in Ithaca, NY. The residency honors Dr. Su-Je Lee Gage and her dedication to human rights and social justice. I feel so lucky to have had the week to reset and re-focus on my creative work.

No Offense is officially one year old. I’ll never forget the feeling of holding this thing I worked so hard to create in my hands for the first time. This last year has been a whirlwind.

At each reading or event while launching this book, I set the bar on the floor and knew I’d be happy if 2 or 3 people showed, but at each and every one, I was stunned to see seats filled. I am forever grateful to my publisher and to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far.

Headed to a writing residency next week and looking for book/essay recs on the theme of “control,” especially in relation to gender, mental illness, death/grief. Can be very specifically related or broadly related. I’ll take whatever ya got!

Not to mention another officer clapping as the man is being shot.

The newest video shows very clearly that they attacked him for coming to an aid of a woman that the agents pushed, and then executed him while he was immobilized. Everything the government has said, like with Good, has been a complete lie.

It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.

For me, one of the most disturbing parts of Renee Good’s murder has been the photos from inside the vehicle. Blood everywhere among her and her family’s every day mundanities: a sticker-covered water bottle, gloves, kids toys. It was just another day, and then it wasn’t.

There is nothing that is happening in 2026 that’s not built on a solid base of white supremacy. If you are outraged by ICE (and you should be) look closely at how the police behave in your own community. It started there.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today. This could be you.

I actually honestly don’t understand the whole AI thing. Not in the like “oh I’m so cool I’m the only one who doesn’t care about this suddenly popular thing” way, but in a “genuinely have never used chat gpt or ever felt the want/need to” kinda way. Like…ppl want to be less creative? Couldn’t be me.

A lot happened for me in 2025, namely publishing a book and becoming a parent. Of course, I want people to read my book, but if you want something quicker, I’m also extremely proud of this piece I wrote for HuffPost early in the year. Support gender affirming care for all!

huffpost.comI Had Life-Changing Surgery The Same Week A Nonbinary Teen Died. It Made Me Face A Sinister Truth."There was something disturbing about waking up from anesthesia as a new person while a family prepared to say their final goodbyes to their loved one."

Plus, No Offense managed to sneak into @queerloveproject.bsky.social’s 2025 “What Queer Books Deserved More Love?” discussion. QLP published one of my essays this year as well and if you’re not subscribed to their substack, you’re missing out on so much wholesome queer content.

queerloveproject.substack.comWhat queer books deserved more love?Amelia Possanza and Michael Narkunski joined me to talk about the reading we enjoyed this past year and what we're excited about in 2026.
