I had little expectations but still the Street Fighter movie was terrible. The one big standout for me was Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, he understood the assignment.
Andrew Koji was acting like he had a serious head injury.

Like everybody else who dislikes AI, I've been trying to reconcile the difference in attitudes. I think a part of it is how result-oriented vs work-oriented(?) people are. Lots of "veterans in the industry" are very result-oriented. They were able to do amazing things in a difficult environment. 1/n
I have trouble with pulling that rewarding feeling towards me, even if I can visualize every step that needs to be taken to get there. The journey to be rewarding and interesting, or I will never get to the destination. Most of my best work ends up half-finished on an old HDD somewhere. 4/n
Obviously the societal and environmental devastation is apparent, but I can "understand" capitalism, greedy CEOs, nearsighted politicians, uncaring consumers etc.
Many extremely talented friends around me use AI and enjoy it, and its results. I mostly see the journey we're all missing out on.
5/5

A lot of great engineers use whatever tools they can to get to their envisioned end product. They can leverage the end result to motivate them through the process.
I'm the opposite: as soon as I can fully visualize the end product, I lose motivation because the problem is no longer challenging. 2/n
I need the work itself to be constantly rewarding; the only reason I can do my job is that I genuinely enjoy the act of typing/programming/iterating - I tweak and tinker with every line, every tab, and fall into rabbit holes every other day. AI breaks up that "path" and leaves me in the lurch. 3/n
I’ve got that stupid Wololo Blues meme in my head all day. I’ve been walking through my apt just saying WOLOLO… AHUELIUH for hours. Thanks 2011 Youtube
Humans are strange creatures. I found out I cannot play video games where the PC is a "real" animal. It stresses me out, and I can't deal with them getting hurt.
Stray is literally too violent and scary for me to enjoy. Anyway, back to Hellraiser...
Apologies to my neighbors this morning. I woke up with "Heart of Glass" stuck in my head, and I had to do what I had to do...
I could've sworn that singing in loud falsetto at 6am was one of those earworm remedies. I guess not.
My devolution is complete. I now dip each tortellino directly into the pesto jar so I get the perfect amount of pesto and never have to throw away any extras.
A while ago I mentioned that Bruce Boxleitner and I were helping Warners with the launch of their Babylon 5 YouTube channel. As part of that, the first of three brand new half-hour-plus interviews/discussions between me and Bruce will go online on Monday.

To celebrate Labor Day, I cleaned and serviced "Plasticpoeper II", my 3D printer.
It sounds a lot happier and I now feel bad for ignoring the ⚠️ sign for a few weeks.
Also, it now no longer works properly. I can't think of a better way to celebrate!
The knob on my washing machine is very symmetric, with a small taper to define the pointy side.
Instead of pointing at "light wash", it was actually backwards, pointing at "soak". I think I just ruined all my nice sweaters.
(BoA) Sir you are delinquent on your CC payments!
(me) Oh gosh, oh jeez, I'm so sorry! Not sure why the autopay didn't kick in!
(BoA) Oh no we got rid of those systems
(me) what?! ... why!?
(BoA) ... 🤷♀️
The most impressive thing about "Backrooms" are the closed caption subtitles. Now every time I see "[talks in foreign language]" I can point to this movie on how to do it right.
Everybody loves Wizard of Oz or those new live-action Disney princess movies, but honestly The Slipper and The Rose (1976) knocks it out of the park with great songs and fun characters. (link to song in *cough* unrelated video)

One of my favorite things about this movie is that it is made outside of the studio finance system. It was fully financed by the then Sultan of Oman (for some reason) and ended up being the Royal Command Performance of that year.
It got bad reviews afaik, but I love it, and all its Britishness.
When watching old TV shows from the 2010s, it is fun to guess the year by the Peak Beard Gradient: the sudden explosion of facial hair across male cast members. It's like they all flip their beard switch between seasons.
Leafcutter ants are among the most complex social organisms on Earth. Found throughout the Americas, these ants are world-renowned not just for their strength, but for being some of the planet's first "farmers".

Pharmacy lost my prescription and they just ended up stuck in a loop checking the same drawers over and over again.
Took their entire staff just milling around between two spots; feels like one of those ant death loops.
I’m still there and there is a massive line forming…
I started learning Italian less than half a year ago, and now I'm reading an Italian book.
A year ago, these words were just random noise, but now it "just works" (most of the time).
Human brains are pretty amazing.
I thought I was out; cured. But I knew I'd never fully shake it.
It started with some light jazz last night, turned into 80s soft rock: Cross, Richie, Steward ... Collins.
That damned gated reverb ... <sigh>

Watching the dubbed Fist of the North Star 2026 series is like watching some deranged soul take the manga pages and doing South Park-style animation with it, complete with narrating all characters himself.
ME: .. so yeah it’s been a rough few weeks.
THERAPIST: Well one thing we can do is maybe, get you a different therapist? Because I’m … <gestures helplessly>
