So, I've finally tried Proxmox to breathe new life into an old tired computer and I'm impressed. I only have 2 VMs running at the moment and they're both happily running on 10 year old hardware. Yay for extending technology service life.

Looking around at the clown show in my state reinforces my decision to relocate somewhere sane. Voter turnout is low so the extremists hold sway and those that get elected make horrid policies that hurt everyone, even the extremist voters. Rinse, repeat ad nauseam.

Alright I have a question for *all of you*, esp for those of you who are not into environment stuff. When you think about planting native plants in the area you control, what *prevents* you from taking that action? These could be emotional, financial, practical, anything. RTs appreciated here.

Hegseth should detox in Ft. Leavenworth for the next 10-20 years. The DoD is compromised at the very top.

NBC News confirms: Pete Hegseth used his personal phone to send information about U.S. military operations in Yemen to a Signal chat including his wife, brother and personal lawyer, two sources with knowledge confirmed to NBC News. @MSNBC

I’m learning every day. Today’s lesson: Stupidity is a lack of critical thinking. Stupidly is not a lack of intelligence. Smart people can make stupid decisions. Power creates isolation, isolation leads to sycophancy, sycophancy leads to stupidity. Stupidly is a choice.

Indiana has a low voter turnout and that results in unqualified people winning elections.

Senator Jim Banks (R) isn’t sorry he told a fired federal worker “he probably deserved it”. He went on to say the worker was “complaining about losing a left-wing woke job in the federal government that should have never been a job to begin with”. The job was helping people with disabilities.

Thoughts on Signal gate, as someone who spent 19 yrs at CIA. I'm thinking of all the times I accidentally brought my phone into the office and had to not only immediately walk it across the massive parking lot to my car, but report myself to security. Do that too many times=real repercussions

it's hard to reconcile my hatred for the pure evil of the republican party against my hatred of democrats who are fully addicted to useless performative measures. i am so tired of hearing about "talking points" we are not going to meme our way out of this you fucking morons

We’re working on getting our house in order and taking care of loose threads. Saving money against the coming night seems more important than ever these days. Sorry for the dour mood of late.

Feel kind of ghoulish shopping the closing sale at Jo Ann’s but I guess money coming in, even at the end of the business, is still money coming in to pay the workers.

Authoritarianism quickly reveals how thin the veneer of civilization actually is. Once systems are weakened the ugly mess kept at bay becomes more evident. Sadly some people in power read the CIA manual for destabilizing governments and are applying those techniques internally. The tree rots within.

So much truth here.

That weird limbo between Christmas and New Year: time doesn’t exist, your diet is 90% cheese and chocolate, you’ve worn the same pajamas for days, and every conversation starts with “Wait, what day is it?”

The flu virus fucks... By which I mean, if two different strains of flu are present in a single animal, they can both infect one cell and when they repackage themselves, the result is a bunch of virus particles with shared elements from each viral genome.

Tonight we setup the polling location and get ready for tomorrow. This is my second time running this polling location and I anticipate this is going to be a very busy Election Day. If you can, please vote and make your voice heard. Don’t let anyone else speak for you.

Just ordered an eBike and hope to make a difference, albeit a small difference. A neighbor has the Lectric XPedition and is very happy with it. I like the capabilities of a cargo bike so that’s what I went with. Now we wait for delivery.

This is so much of the “law-and-order” mindset in general: policing focused more on controlling “out” groups than as an efficient way of reducing crime. It’s why all the J6 insurrectionists were so surprised when the Capitol Police stopped *them*, the “in” group.

Wil Wheaton is a kind person.

Best Celebrity Encounter: This pic of me with Wil Wheaton at Gen Con in 2010 when I saw him in an aisle and handed him a die for his collection. I was very pregnant, and he was very kind. He signed my DVD of Stand By Me when friends told him I couldn't stand in his long line.

Just for fun, name your BEST and WORST celebrity encounter. I won’t lie, I love to hear these, even when I don’t know the celebrity in question.
