Replace EA with just about every major corporation in America. It’s stunning how similar everyone’s experience is and how oblivious those at top are (or that they just blatantly don’t care)

Chris Kerr@kerrblimey.bsky.social

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

If a car had a 10% chance of blowing up and killing the family in it, that car would never make it to market. Anthropic is like “what we are building has a 10% chance of ending humanity” & the media reaction is cope “their finances aren’t “THAT” bad. Wake me up from this black mirror episode

There’s really no difference to me between the disconnected thinking that Anthropic’s finances are good cause they’re rushing to IPO before their uncancelable debt comes due and Kevin Hassett saying there is no affordability crisis with a straight face cause spending is up

It also doesn’t help that I see how all these stories are connected. Anthropic getting its S-1 out conveniently before it needs to prove it can pay its uncancelable commitments right before a midterm election that will probably led to a more hostile Congress (one can hope)…

Also suddenly Microsoft is offering buyouts to 1/4 of its employees…not because of “a.i efficiencies” but cause they gotta put more money to data center buildouts… You know the thing that Anthropic will need to justify its existence…

What annoys and pisses me off the most is the gaslighting It’s like when folks tried to say NFTs were the future and not a scam. Or that buying a house 200k over asking and skipping an inspection was a good idea.

Don’t worry bro. Anthropic is IPO’ing so they’ll use their A.I. to solve this… Wait…

Senator Mark Warner@markwarner.bsky.social

Americans are already paying too much for everyday essentials. Grocery stores, airlines, and other companies should not be able to use folk’s personal data and AI to squeeze every last penny out of them.

The anthropic IPO is really a prime example of how cooked everyone is in media and finances. Like, ignoring that their revenue is a lot of subsidized compute costs from other places...they themselves talk about the huge existential threat of what they're building...and folks are like

a company that shouldn't exist. is bad for everyone. backed by a tech industry that is boosting their share prices by burning through A.I. capex while shedding workers

someone explain to me how any of this is good? It's like being strapped into the backseat of a car with a bad driver about to have an accident that is clearly their fault

The "A.I. job apocalypse" is just companies cutting jobs so their books don't look as bad because of all the money they're losing on a.i. infrastructure buildout and capex

Mother Jones@motherjones.com

When Anthropic was created, its co-founders pledged to commit 80% of their personal equity holdings in the company to philanthropic causes. As they prepare to take the company public, they appear to be walking back that pledge.

For all the talk the media has about liberals/Dems/whoever being "in a bubble", the reality is, the Tech Bros and people like this are the ones living in a bubble. so much that when they get real push back about the horrible things they're doing & building, they think it has to be bots

404 Media@404media.co

In comments at a private police conference, Flock CEO Garrett Langley said backlash to the company wasn't "real" and the work of "bots." Also he said his wife advised him to never apologize. Read now: www.404media.co/in-leaked-au...

Also, I’d argue that customer service wasn’t broken to begin with (from a consumer perspective. From an employee perspective they are exploited ). People will always complain about a bad customer service experience but rarely talk about a good or honestly, normal experience

So they’re trying to push a.i as a solution for something where 8 or 9 times out of 10 the experience is normal. So they’re gonna say it’s to fix something that isn’t broken then eventually they will use it for other more nefarious means because…of course it will be

So now you replace ppl with an a.i and it’s not about a better customer service experience it’s about closing customer service tickets to meet a metric and now you have a computer taking calls that won’t get emotional or have any feelings with a bad customer or someone who needs sympathy

This is why I find the pro-A.I. folks talking about “democratizing” the tech to be so delusional. The minute these big corporations started getting vulnerable themselves to reverse engineering, the frontier labs were ALWAYS going to take their side. So there is no ethical use of the frontier

They are just using you and your data to be useful. The minute you do something like *checks notes* reverse engineer the spyware smart TVs have that are unethically spying on your and your family….they will shut you down Because of course they will

the most moderate, apolitical and non-controversial opinion in Elon Musk is that everything he sells is too good to be true, and will either fall apart and be expensive to fix, or will be clawed back and resold to you for more money

Why can’t these ppl just be normal?

Tech companies are increasingly turning to religion for guidance on developing ethical AI models. Executives are seeking input from various faith leaders, acknowledging that moral questions about AI can't be answered in labs alone.

Gonna do all this just to lose Also wild to me to be disabled and not think “I’m next” when it comes to trans bigotry

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

"AI will destroy humanity" has always and only been an attempt to distract from "AI will leak your login credentials to the internet"

Emily Bell@emilybell.bsky.social

Three weeks ago AI founders were all over the press making vague but portentous comments about the existential risks and power of their models. This week their models are part of a widespread security failure around critical systems such as your bank account..a more immediate and serious risk 1/

This was always the plan. It’s why they haven’t challenged Biden’s preemptive pardons Here’s the thing though, Dems absolutely should challenge these. Considering the vindictive nature of Trump, I’m not mad at what Biden did but also don’t think they can possibly hold up if challenged.

buddy blocked me cause i wasn't having his bs "we the people" answer on my thread about pro-A.I. folks talking about being "pro-UBI". To be clear, Im pro-UBI but i'm not stupid & see through these A.I./techno fascist pieces of shit saying they support "UBI" You gotta be stupid to fall for that

the first time they think (key word THINK) someone is "gaming the system" or "getting something they didn't earn", they're gonna show their asses. Particularly white folks. We know this. We've seen it.

it's no secret what they're trying to do. They come out and say "yeah we support UBI" and then all the sudden Elon and Dario are talking about giving "shares to the people" you see where this is going right? The future in the Alien franchise. absolutely not. not falling for that

also...ALSO...I really honestly don't want to hear about UBI until we have a very real conversation and consensus on the general public not feeling like people haven't "earned" the right cause...no one wants to talk about the underlying ugliness of the American public

support for UBI should be unconditional. Not "Well, the advancements in A.I. really show the need for UBI" That concedes so much ground to techno fascist dickheads and sets up for a really horrible future. clearly

White people always wanna talk about “we the people” when it’s something that benefits them but if there is a hint that some black or brown person may get some benefit they deem “unearned” all that “we the people” flies out the window

scott galloway and jessica tarlov held an event here in town yesterday where “don’t impeach or waste time on investigations because ‘28” was the consensus position of the panel. so yeah, this is something to anticipate.

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Oh The horror Won’t someone think of the ultra wealthy for once?

This is genuinely some of the most worrying news I have seen in the past few years, in terms of the ongoing effort to hold the AI industry accountable on climate Me losing work because the org I'm pitching to is funded by Anthropic is far more of a threat than actual competition from generative AI

John Kostyack@kostyack.bsky.social

Having worked for and with NGOs and foundations for most my career, I can't even begin to grapple with what NGO advocacy would look like if most philanthropic support was coming from Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Dario Amodei and their ilk.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, people would probably be more willing to embrace tech like 'A.I.' if the worst people weren't the loudest advocates for it. However...they are. And regular ppl are smart enough to see how this goes.

No amount of "Yeah, this is why we need UBI now" comments are gonna help because everyone knows the WORST PEOPLE are in charge and that's not happening. We're watching these people actively make life terrible for everyone else and we're supposed to believe they'll back UBI?

These same people are spending hundreds of millions to billions of dollars to back a) fascist pedophile protectors b) campaign against a modest billionaire tax in Cali. In what reality does the current A.I. push lead to UBI and a better life for everyone?

Let me see if I have this straight. "Muse is the first great A.I. product" because you can use it to find deals on overpriced products that have gone up exponentially because of mega corporations like Meta & their billionaire owner who is in bed with a fascist government? sure. ok
