And, for clarity: "The benefits outweigh the risks because Biden will definitely lose" is not showing me that you've put serious thought into the risks. Serious thought means sober assessment of everything.

Let's start here: Biden withdraws tomorrow. Who is the nominee? How do we know? Is there a path to just anointing Harris, or does this now have to be an open convention? If it's an open convention, what measures can be taken to restrict how delegates vote? That's a month of campaign totally gone.

The idea that it could flip to Harris and the story be anything but "she knew and covered up or didn't and is incompetent " is nuts. The idea that flipping to someone else and the story be anything but "pushing Harris out" is nuts.

We'll lose. That's partially data informed and partially common sense. It'd be one thing if it was Harris and she was polling much better, but she isn't. Forfeiting the war chest and the incumbency and sparking interparty squabbling over a point in favorable and projected would be dumb.

I'm on break, and this has been stewing a minute I want to bring up an uncomfortable memory for people panicking about polls. Hillary Clinton, data quality, the inherent trouble with political polling.

I'd rather be a point up, sure. But as long as he's within 3/4, I'm not panicking. He's the incumbent POTUS with a wealthier, larger, and better funded ground apparatus. This is winnable.

If Biden's within two points in a poll, that poll shows this as essentially an even race, folks. And the trend, so far, isn't actually against him. An incumbent with a huge $ advantage in an essentially even race is the smart bet. Nows the time to get to work, not give up.

Disagree with this take. I presume it's a temporary pause while the dust settles. Once more is known then the messaging can be vetted and continued or tweaked if necessary.
