Royalist preacher Anthony Farindon: don't reform so thoroughly you purge out compassion; shedding mercy isn't putting on the new man. Today: long devotions, strict purity, and a weary sigh at suffering outside the clan. Whom do you feel for? #anglican #christianwarrior #reformedtheology

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: www.themarginalian.org/2019/06/17/t...

An excellent find, Greg! Thanks very much.

Spurgeon, appealing for starving Lancashire mill workers: grace breaks our selfishness until the rich stop thinking their riches are their own. Today we're taught to fear the state's hand on our wallet. Christ's hand, less so. How can you help? #baptist #spurgeon

Free Church leader Robert Candlish: a church using its gifts of zeal and love would be a hive of bees, out in the wilderness, bringing back blessings. In the text, he also lamented how short real Christianity falls. Today, saying so means you hate the Bride. Whom can you kiss? #christian

Martyr-bishop Hugh Latimer: our abundance exists to relieve our poor neighbours' misery. Today their misery is cited mostly as grounds for moving them somewhere else. A bold new reading of 2 Corinthians. #christian #anglican #puritan #refugees #bible

Puritan William Gouge on Hebrews 13:1–3: to brotherly love add hospitality, care for the sick and imprisoned, intercession for the oppressed, prayer for all. We all endorse love. It's the rest of the list that arrives with terms, conditions and acceptable diseases. #christian #puritan

Nonconformist John Collinges, in Poole's Annotations: if those who won't welcome strangers go to the devil, what of those who make them strangers? Timely, given our zeal for banishment. Hell's keenest doctrinal defenders still mostly fret about skipped quiet times. #christian #refugees #bible

Please be on the alert for this kind of behaviour. It could destabilize operations. I recognise the reluctance, indeed hesitations of the OP, but I think public awareness is more important than the minimal risks which could be a result.

Apparently people are sharing this far and wide on social media, which I think is horrible. This could cripple ICE operations. PLEASE do not share this.

Kestrels can hover in place for over a minute at a time while scanning for food, if wind conditions are ideal. This stationary hunting method, which earned them the historical nickname "windhover," lets them drop vertically on prey like mice and insects.

Ellinwood: the hospital was a high-water mark of Christian civilization—all sects competing to serve the sick without regard to race or creed. Hospitals are now culture war territory. Those practicing brinkmanship against them tend to wave the flag of Christian orthodoxy. #christian #presbyterian

Calvin on James 1:27: religion is not demonstrated in pomp and ceremony but in visiting those in necessity and alleviating distress. These are the duties God’s servants ought to attend to. Calvin considered this the actual definition of religion. #calvinism #christian

Yes, I think so. Except that he didn't blow real capital. I believe that his work for Europe and Ukraine will stand to gain a greater place in history than the adventurism of the robber barons such as Putin and Trump. (But yes, none of his action were immediately near my Australian backyard.)

Thinking about how much of the media we all read or watch is written, produced, or directed by men... or by people who don't know how to write about anything other than men. It's been a while since 1969, yet the problem remains the same.

Outta da way boys, there's a new robber baron on the way. "Nice little strait you got there..." Is step 2 a partnership with Iran to split the transit fees?

COLLINS: Do you want to get reimbursed? TRUMP: Yeah. Because we're protecting a very rich portion of the world. We are going to be reimbursed for protection COLLINS: By who? TRUMP: By the countries we're protecting. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain ...

I'm just hoping they'll get back to us with 'proof of life'. 2 weeks should be enough.

The individuals releasing statements saying they spoke with McConnell all say they spoke with him for about 20 minutes:

Yes, they just needed a r*pist to step up for the part. Oh, you were already there! So the legal postponements are now finished, and you've grifted enough sleazy dosh to easily pay what you're assigned to pay.

Jesus Christ I am so sick of this cunt. "This case is really against the United States." Fuck Off. The United States didn't sexualy assault anyone. PLEASE VOTE IN THE MIDTERMS TO HOLD THIS PATHETIC PIG ACCOUNTABLE.

Exactly so. And it's just as annoying when people say they refute something-or-other and they are in reality only denying or rejecting the accusation.

Trash@trashxdiscourse.bsky.social

To be pedantic, I hate when people say "this person PROVED this in their book" because no they didn't. They might have demonstrated it, claimed it, discussed it, etc. But unless that book is about a conclusive study they themselves conducted, no they didn't. You can say anything in your book.

Reading a book, seeing a word you don't understand and having to look it up, thereby allowing you to understand something that was previously opaque is sometimes called "thinking" and it's good for you. It's one of the nicer parts about being alive.

Pope Leo XIV says that the Catholic Church’s teaching on sexual ethics must be less prioritized over “greater, more important issues.” “We tend to think that when the Church is talking about morality, that the only issue of morality is sexual. And in reality, there are much greater issues.”
