Company I work for has gone all in on AI slop. I've started to report everything on LinkedIn from them using the "this is AI slop" function. I hope it stops people seeing it and the company goes bust, I don't give a shit about it here anymore and want out, redundancy pay is good.

2 months selling gin and cocktails at a market stall. not all that strange except the owner's soon kept trying to get me into crypto and talking about how COVID wasn't real...

Replying to @hern.bsky.social

One thing I didn’t have space to fit here: some people, on both sides of the debate, like to pretend that the only AI risk worth caring about is superintelligence. I think that’s wrong, and misses a huge swathe of ways that improvement in AI capabilities could be really bad for humanity at large.

What is consciousness? What is sentience? These are philosophical question that have been asked since the dawn of time. How lucky we are to live in a time where 7 people in Northern California realised the answer is “being able to predict the most statistically significant next word in a sentence”

I've read this man's name a couple times this morning, after never hearing it, and I can't stop reading it as Andrew Stuart

Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social

*Me running through the streets, grabbing random passers-by, shouting in their faces* "Stuart Andrew has stepped down as shadow health secretary! Stuart Andrew has stepped down as shadow health secretary!"

I saw the Paranormal Activity party last night where the jokes about London's bad weather only half landed

Joel Morris@gralefrit.bsky.social

It’s been so long since it’s rained that last night when I watched an American film where it was pissing down during a scene in London, I immediately pooh poohed it as a far-fetched Hollywood cliché, like when it’s always foggy. “Well, that’s ridiculous! Obviously special effects!”

The editor in chief of The Economist referring here to the AfD’s leader as a “perfectly thoughtful person“ instead of what she truly is - a driver and enabler of German fascism - is a huge part of the problem.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

At one point she notes that AfD, the German political party that Musk supports, has "real neo-Nazis." Musk literally just shrugs.

this is a wonderful thread. my mum's diploma in psychology arrived in the weeks between her passing and the funeral

It’s been an emotional day. This morning my eldest son, my sister and her husband travelled down to the University of Plymouth’s graduation ceremony for the arts faculty.

I fully appreciate it's foolish and something I/all Brits need to give up but the commitment to doing the thing you planned to do regardless of the weather is pretty core to my life and identity

Marie Le Conte@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com

I spent a lot of my summers in Morocco when I was a kid, before we had aircon there, and I mean yeah the houses were built with Moroccan weather in mind but also the rhythm of life was entirely different, and could change at the last minute because of the heat, which IMO is something Brits resent

generally think that if your response to "this is loser shit" is "are you triggered?!?!?" then you're just demonstrating the truth of "this is loser shit"

I sometimes wonder if there's a morality thing to people desperately wanting to be left leaning. I had a colleague who insisted he would support ALDE (NI lib dems) typically, considered himself left leaning but also wanted to bring back capital punishment 🤷‍♂️

I keep telling everyone that with our excellent craft beer, variety of ethnic restaurants and temperate summers that never go above 40°C we are like Italy with better food and weather.

As the sixth British PM in a decade is about to resign, we now have Italian politics without the cuisine

arguably the worst thing this administration has done

Still can't get over the fact that the White House Correspondents Dinner will have a magician instead of a comedian performing

Quite a flex to turn up at the presidential palace, get him to confirm you as prime minister, call him unfit to serve with no moral authority, tell him to resign, and then pose for a picture
