Putting together a simplified map of the ✨Port Authority Bus Terminal.✨ Walked through (probably) all the levels today. Somehow it makes even less sense once you figure out how it’s laid out. I have so many questions. They all begin with “Why”.

A lot of transit systems assume all their riders are seasoned riders who live in their city. This makes it really difficult to attract both new local riders and casual visitors. Secret rules help nobody, but they're really common. "Oh everyone knows this bus stops over there now!"

None of the mapping apps (Apple, Google, Transit) took the change into consideration when routing. I was able to get on the bus by running up to it and flagging down the driver.

Please enjoy our first Pride logo. We believe rights are important regardless of whatever wild and whimsical direction political winds may blow.

Hey so we don't use AI when we make any of our products or write any of our posts. We actually *like* doing what we do. Just putting that out there.

HowDoYou tell if you're talking to an AI chatbot posing as a human? Method 1: Ask it to do some creative writing. (These messages were supposedly from a sales representative at a PR firm)

Wow, @transit.app just dimmed my Cranberries album to tell me I might miss a connection and what train to take instead.

Just rode the subway with headphones and @transit.app "Go" routing for the first time. It gives audio reminders of how many stops you have left, even when using other apps (I was also playing a game AND watching a TikTok live stream). Huge accessibility win. 🙌🙌😍🚆

We just got back from a cross-country Amtrak trip! 9 stops, 4 nights on the train, and got around without cars *almost* everywhere. Highlights from several stops coming soon.

This applies to: - Everything is free - Only some things are free Just tell us what's free. Right up front. No detective work necessary.

Dear transit agencies of the world, please include on your home page: - What kind of transit you have - What (if anything) each of them costs Visitors laden with luggage don't have the time or patience to pore over 20 pages and as many PDFs.

Really trying to not take a car, but Lyft prices: $15 for one unwalkable mile from the bus stop to my destination. $17 from where I currently am ten miles away.

Apple Maps found me a slightly less busy intersection to do... this... in. Both the Apple and Google directions send me walking in areas with no sidewalks. I fear I may Uber the last mile.

BLUESKY STATS: - 279 Bluesky accounts. - 33 orgs added new Bluesky accounts. - 14 orgs relocated their Bluesky accounts (mostly for custom domains). - 28 newly-added orgs have Bluesky accounts.

FEEDBACK: Our methodology is ever evolving, and there are definitely orgs we haven't covered yet. If you think something should be different, please don't hesitate to use the feedback form near the top of the page, or comment or send a DM.

TRENDS NOTICED: - LOTS of new YouTube (125) and LinkedIn (85) accounts. We weren't tracking them all before, so maybe this was just catch-up. - 59 new TikTok accounts - 51 more Twitter/X accounts gone dormant in the past year.

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE: - We're keeping an eye on an additional 118 orgs that didn't make the cut, or are dormant. Every year we check in on them. - We removed 9 orgs from the public list this year.

NOTES: - We track all social accounts, even dormant ones. - Mostly organizations. Currently working on methodology for whether to include/exclude/spin-off media or blog sites.

Sometimes I absolutely love something, but it doesn't turn out as popular as I expect it to be. These cups, thankfully, move like the wind. They're super solid, and I am not sure any print shows off ziro's gradients quite so well?! thebrokencircle.etsy...

Having traveled around the US quite a bit the past few years, we've seen a lot of this in person. Pretty much every city has at least *something* that looks like a recent improvement.

Oh The Urbanity!@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social

I can drop into literally any city in North America in Google Maps (any city I’ve tried, even very car-centric ones). And pretty quickly find decent pedestrian or cycling improvements that happened in the past 5 or 10 years. Like this part of Columbus, Ohio that didn’t use to have sidewalks.

Annual refresh of our Transit & Urbanism Directory is under way! We're checking all the links. About 400 orgs. 60 checked so far. We found... - 33 new socials (incl. 10 Bluesky) - 6 relocated socials - 2 orgs newly active - 3 orgs newly dormant www.howdoyou.guide/orglist

Sometimes you can just do the nice things. Thanks, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social!

Who says elected municipal representatives can’t flex their #PoliticalWill to prioritize the safety of vulnerable road users? (In this case, the Mayor of NYC) h/t @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social www.instagram.com/p/DTEPqhckRw...

There's an ease/preference gradient for ways to pay for transit, and it's probably gonna be different for everyone. Mine is: Tap > Phone Wallet > App > Transit Card > Ticket > Cash
