RubyEvents Guides is now live. Over the last few months, I talked to Rubyists who want to help the community keep going. Some want to restart a local meetup. Some are organizing their first small conference. Some already run events and want to make the next one better.

That’s what RubyEvents Guides is. The guides are based on more than a dozen interviews with experienced conference organizers. They collect practical hints, tools, resources, and long-form advice you can work through at your own pace.

Most importantly, they make the work visible. The budgets, the venues, the speaker wrangling, the scheduling, the weird edge cases. All the stuff that makes an event happen before anyone shows up.

The awkward part is that event organizing is still pretty opaque. You can want to help and still get stuck quickly. Where do I find a venue? How do I get speakers? What format should I use? Who can I talk to who has done this before?

There are posts, writeups, and bits of advice scattered around. But I kept wanting something more complete. Something grounded in lived experience, not generic β€œcommunity building” advice. Something that takes the knowledge in organizers’ heads and makes it easier to find.

I live in the terminal and I like things pretty. But there's no icon font for AI logos - Nerd Fonts has git and your distro, nothing for OpenAI or Anthropic. So I made one. 300+ AI provider logos as a glyph font for your terminal, statusbar and prompt. Link below πŸ‘‡οΈ

Here's a post that is equal parts "spatial queries in SQLite are neat" and "here are the weird corners you will absolutely run into." If you're using Rails with SQLite and want spatial queries without switching to PostGIS, this will save you some time. www.hansschnedlitz.com/writing/2026...

hansschnedlitz.comSpatial Queries with SpatiaLite and Ruby on RailsSpatiaLite is a great alternative to PostGIS/PostgreSQL if you want to stick to SQLite. Previously, we set up SpatiaLite in a simple demo application. To jog your memory, here’s what we’re building.

Let's welcome @hansschnedlitz.bsky.social Experienced Ruby developer and organizer of the Vienna.rb, Hans is going to show how some well-known gems can be distilled down to a single file you can simply copy-paste into any new project. πŸ‘‰οΈ balkanruby.com/talks/34 #RubyCommunity #RubySpeaker #RubyConf

We're kicking off Vienna.rb! Live now: Learning how to build games with Ruby by Marie-Therese Fischer! #ruby

Copy-pasting code is underrated. Better than adding another dependency. Better than vendoring. Now I point an agent at a library and say "take their approach, adapt it for our project." The result fits like a glove. It's a great time to copy-paste. More on the ol' blog πŸ‘‡οΈ
