I can't really believe it but it seems to be the case that the Times has not covered a credible accusation of rape against the President of the United States, but has two solid stories on Obama's cheesecake factory quip.

I really mean this: read the story; the story of how Vivek’s ad came together — including but not limited to what she was like when they found the mom and noticed how incoherent she was and how she couldn’t keep facts straight — is somehow more depraved and worse than you already think

WOW! Meta had a secret PR plan to discredit Jon Haidt because he was a critic of social media. Meta was going to recruit academics, like Andrew Gelman, to write take down pieces. I wonder if they paid any other academics to try and discredict other social media experts.

the actual reason is that the media likes Trump and wants to help him. They didn't like Hillary and they didn't like Biden and wanted to hurt them. That explains why Hillary's emails was covered as a nuclear-level scandal and "Trump is a violent rapist who is best friends with Jeff Epstein" isn't

There are credible allegations of rape against the president, and evidence his administration has taken steps to cover up his relationship with the world's most notorious pedophile. This story is being covered more aggressively by People Magazine than the NY Times, Wash Post, or Wall St Journal.

Looks like we need to switch to "No, it's only the national DSA that's crazy, the local orgs are pretty good!" we'd been stuck on "No, it's only the local orgs that are crazy, the national DSA is pretty good!" for a minute there.

one of the really useful takeaways from fukuyama's political order books is a clear conceptual understanding of what corruption *is* in its fundamental nature. and the answer... is patronage networks organized on personal connections! corruption is *inherent* in these discretionary systems!

looked at in longer perspective, it's striking how much this resembles the premodern system of exclusion, rents, and personalist connections, which was--and this part's important--radically worse than the modern system of impersonal rules and general taxation

Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

Yes: everyone was preparing how to manage the aftermath of the war they very much weren’t winning.

An overwhelming and never-to-be-repeated factor in Trump’s success is that sober professionals fully believed that he was *obviously* about to be ushered offstage, and their job was to keep things running “as usual” until that happened. Which required pretending no POTUS would do what he was doing.

I think Garland perceived his job as being the responsible adult in the room whose role was to resist pressure to lock Trump up. But when Trump was guilty of multifarious offenses ranging from treason to fraud to child predation, this turned Garland into Trump’s de facto protector.
