There wasn't much doubt that the UK and EU would reach agreement on linking carbon pricing schemes, of more interest as also with the SPS agreement is the scope of coverage, how it will be implemented, when, etc. www.politico.eu/article/uk-e...

EU refinery output did not fully recover after COVID, but remained relatively stable since 2021. The share of jet-fuel in the output-mix has been gradually ramped up from 3% to 8% since 2021.

The EU completely sold out its principles today. The symbolic effect of lifting sanctions on Usmanov and Fridman is a catastrophy. There is hardly any justification for this. Who's next? Is this the beginning of EU sanctions collapsing?

The macroeconomic impact of the current oil-price shock feels muted. One thing that has changed is that the US is now a substantial net exporter (annual oil/LNG export revenues might increase by $150bn/$50bn). Visibly the USD does not depreciate when oil prices rise.

Over summer, we have revamped the @bruegel.org gas import tracker. Mostly data pipeline, so webpage should look similar. Weekly updates are now resuming (thursday mornings) & data are downloadable now from the charts directly. Page has imports, LNG flows and storage balances 👇

Just learnt: For centuries, #Magdeburg served as the supreme appellate court* and legal blueprint for hundreds of daughter towns across Central and Eastern Europe (Kyiv, Vilnius, ...) - until its entire collection of precedents burned down in 1631. [* answering their legal inquiries ('Weistümer')]

Norwegian production - which currently covers almost a third of EU gas imports - could, according to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, halve by 2035 (in the low scenario) or by 2040 (in the base scenario).

Glen Peters@glenpeters.bsky.social

The Norwegian oil & gas adventure is coming to an end. Even with aggressive exploration in new areas, big finds, & technology development, the most ambitious scenario from the Offshore Directorate has declining production. This is before considering climate! www.sodir.no/en/whats-new... 1/
