After all the bile and vitriol she's been unjustly subjected to, @ilhanmn.bsky.social is still smiling. Her humanity is profoundly refreshing.

Trump’s goal is to intimidate me and get me to back down. That’s not going to happen. I will not be silenced, and I will not stop fighting for my constituents.

Reposting this amazing and exceptionally needed resource! Kudos!

Londoners! I've made a website that discovers everything going on in the physical world of London (talks, exhibitions, gigs, plays, etc.) and finds stuff it thinks you'll like. You teach it your interests by swiping events left or right. Decent recs after ~100 swipes. Check out realworld.events!

One would naturally assume that the same cisgender women who object to sharing a hospital ward with transgender women would warmly embrace sharing a ward with transgender men. Or do they want to have their cake and eat it?

There’s that famous BBC balanced coverage, showing all sides of the story so readers can make an informed judgement.

Is it just me, or does the recent flurry of “AI escaping confinement and committing serious crimes” stories smack less of super intelligence and more of “we vibe-coded our sandboxes”? If I made software that hacked something, I’d be in prison right now. But the AI CEOs seem rather Teflon on this.

Tell me you grew up in a family of five without telling me you grew up in a family of five… Istg I’m literally incapable of cooking small amounts of food. This was meant to be four portions of lasagna. I made ten. I guess lunch and dinner—and let’s face it, breakfast—are sorted for the week.

I was really proud to be volunteering at the #GreatNorthRun today. Deployed to the last 800 metres, I had a great perspective of the final dash to the finish line. Well done to everyone who participated today, and especially thank you to my fantastic team of fellow volunteers; I’m proud of you all.

Dolly Parton leaves in her wake a legacy of unconditional benevolence, kindness, and compassion. Her death is more than the loss of an icon; it is the loss of the kind of role model we so desperately need at the moment. Rest in peace, ma'am.

A couple more snaps from the #eclipse yesterday. Would we call this a “fire rainbow”? I’m not sure, but either way it was very pretty! 🌈

I truly believe that the next trend in AI-generated fuckery will be the manipulation of operational images, such satellite images & medical scans—technical visual documents whose default (para)empirical status can be leveraged. Google playing its part in recreationally extinguishing the evidentiary.

Using some very rough maths, I reckon that billionaires account for approximately ~0.0000413% of the human population on Earth. Yet between them, they hoard ~13.4% of the world’s money ($20.1 trillion). Think about that the next time one of these whiny twats complains about having to pay tax.

I reckon this doesn't need saying, but fuck it, I'm feeling direct… Even if you trust this government to define “trusted news” sources in good faith, will you trust the next one to do so? Something, something, Ellison, something.

Okay, UKsters, the media is useless re: extreme heat, so let’s do this. I’m from Southern California, spent the last ten years living outside Seattle, which has a similar climate to Scotland, where I am now. Here’s what I know. 1. Heat exhaustion and sickness are no fucking joke. Do not tempt them.

Indeed. I reckon it'll also be very telling whether or not his opinions on electoral reform are immune to the all-too-familiar convenience-fuelled spinelessness which his predecessor succumbed to so laughably quickly.

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

Andy Burnham is currently under a load of media-driven pressure to "reassure the markets" by appointing a Chancellor whose views are almost entirely out of line with everything he's said so far. How he responds will tell us whether he actually wants to change how Westminster works

People on the “call a general election because Andy Burnham is further left than the country voted for” bandwagon would do well to remember that Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak were all further right than the country voted for in 2017. If you don't like the system, campaign to change it.

Congratulations to Andy Burnham. As a nation, we now find ourselves at an era-defining crossroads. If Burnham's all but inevitable premiership champions electoral reform (small ‘r’), we might just manage to cease our dissent into Reform (big ‘r’)'s divisive rhetoric. That “if”, though, is immense.

We need to stop using the terms “left” and “right” in political discourse. They're overly simplistic, and they very neatly sanitise bad behaviour. I'd argue that a 3D spectrum along evidential/emotional, inclusive/exclusive, and libertarian/authoritarian axes would be a far more useful tool today.

@bsky.app why are the trending feeds getting noticeably worse? Currently the ”Makerfield Election“ feed is, I reckon, less than 1/3 content which has anything at all to do with the Makerfield by-election. It's mostly football and Nigel-bloody-Farage. Quite an important thing to get right, no?

Well, this is a bit horrifying. Let me be clear, the St George’s Cross has lost its meaning as a national symbol. The far-right has co-opted it as a symbol of hatred, division, and intolerance. This is my flag: 🇬🇧 Not this: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 I am British, not English.

As a gay man, like all LGBTQ+ people, I've seen my fair share of bigotry throughout my life. Thankfully, the progress we have made—even during my 23 years—has been profound. This Pride Month, though, two overwhelming feelings are foremost in my mind…

The second is of sadness for my trans siblings, for whom progress on the march towards justice has been slow and exhausting. We can't forget that none of us are free until all of us are free, and so we fight on. And we must never, ever, submit to the feckless bigotry levied blindly at our community.

So, as I celebrate this Pride Month, I do so solemnly understanding that Pride is, always has been, and must remain, a protest until every single one of us has the freedom to live our lives in peace, happiness, and justice. Though we must keep fighting, it needn't be alone. Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The first is one of humble gratitude for the activists who came before me, without whom I could not adore my gorgeous boyfriend as I do. To them I owe my happiness—a debt which I could never fully repay. I hope, though, to one day tell my children the story of their bravery, and of their sacrifice.

This is counter-productive, authoritarian and chilling. The British state should not be in the business of banning commentators and journalists from entering the country, without compelling reason. Finding their views objectionable is nowhere near enough. www.theguardian.com/media/2026/j...

The point of these attacks is twofold: 1. Flood people with nonsense until it feels true. 2. Grind people down until they lose hope. We know the answer to that: fight back - with hope & a plan for change. There is absolutely no way they win this. Join.greenparty.org.uk

And yet, the majority of media organisations here in the UK report these headlines with generally positive—or at the very least neutral—framing. This is the BBC’s “Summary” section as of 09:04 this morning…

I always have a candle of some description lit when I’m working at my desk. For a while, though, I’ve been conscious that they’re not the best for indoor air quality. And, of course, they’re a significant fire risk. So yesterday, I bought a set of four rechargeable #Skatgås tea lights from #IKEA.

These are SO realistic! I’m very pattern-sensitive, and trust me, these would bother me if there was any kind of repeating pattern in the animation. But there’s some exceptional pseudorandom goodness happening with these. After a few minutes of being turned on, I entirely forget they’re LEDs.
