"Nothing of this scale has been seen in the United States, experts say, since the federal government’s counterinsurgency against the New Left and the anti-war movement in the 1960s and 1970s." Incredible reporting here from @awinston.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/ice-is...

So hard to pick a favorite part of this article. Pretending that sending unsolicited dick pics at 53 was a “youthful indiscretion” is good, but don’t sleep on the argument that his wife forgave him for subjecting other women to unwanted nude photos so everyone else should too
Republican congressional candidate Brent Taylor asks voters to forgive past sexual advances as "youthful indiscretions."

Meet the guy Republicans are hoping to gerrymander into Congress by diluting the voting power of Black people in Memphis.

"Trump’s criminal abusiveness and the public’s ineffective response to it are Exhibit A in the case that there are deep problems with American democracy that must be dealt with. Beating Republicans at the polls in 2026 and 2028 is merely the beginning of what needs to happen."

A damning quote from the report: “Trump and Epstein seemed to share the same playbook for recruiting and abusing women, all the way down to the university they promised admission to and the timing of their follow-up phone calls.”
A new 50-page report released by House Judiciary Committee Democrats includes a trove of evidence regarding allegations of sexual assault, including a new rape allegation from former Miss Switzerland, against Trump that the lawmakers say has been deliberately covered up by the DOJ.

You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.
For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

At TPM, we wrote a bajillion stories on how the 2020 effort to undermine the election came together. A big part of it was creating *the appearance of chaos*. So all the Kraken lawsuits failing wasn't that big a problem, because the litigation created the appearance of a dispute.
What if the husband took on those responsibilities because the wife is the breadwinner? You know, like a mature adult in a loving relationship would do?
It’s hard to decide what part of this story on Marissa Mayer’s new startup is most loathsome, but this “women need a wife or, in other words, a digital servant” construction makes me want to flip over an actual table www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it

The cool part is that now there’s totally precedent to do automated benefits for SNAP and Medicaid!! I’m being snarky, but after this there’s no excuse to dismantle the extra admin burden placed on SNAP/Medicaid via the One Big Bill
Trump's $5K checks have become a punchline because few think he will deliver. But he has given 1 million people a $500 check (mostly in swing states), and abt 20 million a $90 check (w propaganda letters). No-one applied. The process was automated, using administrative data to target payments.

Trump Accounts would allow corporations or their owners to make donations by zip code. So, for example, a company trying to set up a data center could give money to families in that region. This is the logic of the bribe state which Trump has enabled and supports. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Trump: "As far as data centers, we don't want to get controversial. The community that they're been built -- they're great, they give you a lot of money -- ask for a lot of money. Tell them to pay you $10,000, $15,000, $20k for everybody who lives in the community. They'll do it! You just gotta ask"

Maybe that's him and/or his immediate political successors. Maybe it's some new thing following in his footsteps and expanding on his precedents for what you can get away with. But it's a binary choice. Either you shut this kind of thing down hard and decisively or sooner or later it will work.

We'll see how far the attempt goes, even if it will clearly fail. But a constitutional system that sees such an attempt by its chief executive and then leaves him in office has already been shattered. Merely trying is betrayal enough and places him outside of constitutional or democratic legitimacy.

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.
