My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

This is the logical extension of a system which demands more and more and more numbers, raw data, without context for said data. Data points without a framework of meaning, numbers without context, are useless, as the current mania for assessment in higher education demonstrates.

When I say that the video game industry has had a catastrophic past few years, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Most of these game studios are not closing because they're not PROFITABLE. They're closing because they're not showing GROWTH. The system of investor capitalism is ruining literally everything you care about.

Hedge fund logic continues: buy a studio, run it into the ground, close it. So infuriating.

Hey, it's a Sunday morning at @canconsffh.bsky.social, and I've got another panel, this one on How To Read Your Work Like an Expert. And while I'm on the subject of reading: have you heard the news from yesterday about my forthcoming novel with Ed Greenwood, from @catalystgamelabs.bsky.social? :D

If I was a Republican strategist I would be terrified at the prospect of having to deal with someone like this in the Senate, not just because of himself, but because he is modeling the way to respond to smug gotcha crap like this: by preparing and responding with calm conviction. Brilliant stuff.
