Countdown Day 15: If Christian spatial thought can reinforce carcerality, it can also overcome it. Changing our spatial practices can change the culture.

Countdown Day 16: Carceral binaries in Christian spatial thought: These binaries of Inside/Outside, Above/Below, Here/Hereafter contribute to the prison-and-punishment mindset in our culture

Maaaaaybe this quote makes sense a decade ago. Today it just makes you look like either a liar or a fool.

I think one of the best aspects of this story is just how *average* the cop is. This is pretty much what most cops are like. They believe they are doing a good job.

“This, like so many laments about what things cost in America, is a housing story. Public schools that provide a residential undergraduate education are also selling undergraduates an education in what it means to afford a residence.”

Pretty nearly the whole actual point of getting white college students to go to Mississsippi for Freedom Summer was to draw national media attention

"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

"Providence" is the elastic doctrine of choice for sanctifying all kinds of crimes. Lots of good theological work on this from many folks, chief among them Willie Jennings. Also MAtt Jantzen's excellent "God, Race, and History," plus a book called "Our Trespasses" written by little old me.

D-R turnout gap swing is everywhere, including key Black Belt counties, the huge vote blocks in Wake and Mecklenburg, and almost all of Western NC. The breadth of these numbers are so strong that I think the NCGA House is in play.

anybody doing analysis on what this implies about the broader US capitalist class? are they just free riding or does this indicate some other kind of cultural response / coordination strategy with respect to the current administration

Elon Musk has assembled a presidential-level field operation this midterm cycle, underscoring the extent to which he has taken over the get-out-the-vote effort for the Republican party.

This could yield incredible results in our state legislature. NCGOP has held a veto-proof majority in both houses for most of the last 16 years, and have destroyed public institutions in the process. Even if Ds can't flip the houses, breaking the veto-proof majorities will be a terrific victory.

North Carolina is shaping up to be a Democratic blowout. Early voting turnout is up a lot, but is actually *down* for registered Republicans

Dozens of masked settlers attacked Palestinian villagers and savagely beat a Washington Post photographer today. "Israeli troops arrived shortly before the attack, which seemed to embolden the settlers. Soldiers fired tear gas at Palestinians and 'did absolutely nothing about the settlers.'"

Right so the war against social science. Yes it’s ideological. It’s also a termination letter from the state saying it no longer needs legitimation. that’s the public crisis — ask yourself why it doesn’t need legitimacy.
