It is funny, I am sitting here building AWS Lambda functions in Rust using Claude Code and I feel like I am really programming again. I think after all these years I was getting bored with directly cutting code, since the vast majority of it were things I had written before.

I’ve gone totally agentic. Not only do I have kiro.dev cranking away at porting an old HPC Perl app to modern AWS serverless, I also promoted my son to go out and pick up burritos.

I'm actually kind of impressed with Kiro. The requirements + design + code is an old school vibe, which for someone that is old is fun. It even got itself all twisted around trying to get dependencies and mocks setup for unit testing that I told it to give up. (So it even acts like a real dev!)

The Kiro thinking icon is adorable. The look on my face was not so adorable when I tried (and failed miserably) to login with Amazon Q Developer Pro.

One of the best things about my job is that we have dogs (with their own employee badges!) that hang out in the main hospital and you can stop and scratch their ears and call them the goodest dog ever.
